Remember playing Bop It! for hours on end when you were a kid in the ‘90s and 2000s? Now you can play it again — in the form of Bop It! The Video Game, now available on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch courtesy of Hasbro and Alliance Games.
Bop It! The Video Game is played the same as you would play the real-life audio game, only now you play it across different backgrounds with different music. You have to listen to voice prompts and follow them in quick succession. For example, if you hear “BOP IT!” you tap the Bop It! button in the center. Hear “TWIST IT!” and “PULL IT!” and respectively swipe down to twist the nob and swipe right to pull the other. If you make the wrong move or don’t follow the prompt in time, the game is over.
There are four levels to play Bop It!: Shapes, which has a colorful ‘90s background of various shapes; Space; City; and Office. Each level is just as immersive as the other, and helps to enhance your gameplay like you’ve never seen in your childhood. The best part is you won’t hurt your hands after playing for a while.
I played Bop It! The Video Game on my iPhone 16 Pro for a bit before writing up this report, and it is trippier than it was when I played the real Bop It! as a kid. But it’s a good kind of trippy — it’s a trip back to the past, when everything was a colorful miracle.
Bop It! The Video Game is free-to-play on Android and iOS, but you have to pay $3 to unlock everything. The Nintendo Switch and Steam versions are $8.
