One of my favorite crazes over the past decade has been the embrace of the standing desk. A desk that not only serves the purpose of allowing users to adjust the height based on whether they want to sit in a chair or stand, but also offers accessibility to users with disabilities. So when Boulies reached out to me concerning their MagVida standing desk, I knew I had to test it out for myself! What I thought was going to be a regular old standing desk turned out to be something a bit cooler.
Quality and Design
When it comes to design, most standing desks that I’ve seen and used have been similar. Luckily, the MagVida comes with its incredible EMO System, which basically means that the entire underside of the desk is magnetic. This allows users to have a cleaner and highly customizable experience when it comes to putting together their office/gaming space.
I was even more impressed by the fact that this desk came with an entire cable organization tray, a headset hook, and some silicon magnetic cable ties for management, giving users the essentials right out of the box. And for its lofty $799.99 MSRP, it helps make the sale more tolerable.
During my time with the desk, I found it to offer enough desk space (the only size available as of writing this is 55” by 28”) and to move up and down smoothly. It offers anti-collision detection as well as a standard control panel where you can save profiles for height presets.
Feedback
While Boulies’ 7-step setup for this standing desk was incredibly easy, it was a process that I had to do multiple times over, as both the original desk top and base were faulty. The desktop came chipped, and the original base of legs actually stopped working on one side, rendering the thing useless, and it fell apart.
Since I received the replacements for both, the desk has become one of my favorite pieces of equipment in the house. It’s worth noting, though, that users might run into quality control issues. Boulies worked with me pretty quickly to resolve it, but hopefully its consumers will receive the same diligent replacement process.
Verdict
When push comes to shove, the MagVida standing desk is a really cool evolution of the typical fare that users are going to see on the market. The EMO System is a super iconic idea and one that, as a customization girlie, loves to see in the products she owns. Just be aware that, at least in my case, items came either damaged or not working at all. So just be patient if you need to replace a piece of the desk, and you’ll be set up for success.
