Yesterday, Activision held the live reveal event for its upcoming shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Several new and not so new information was revealed during the event like the different game modes including the fan favorite Zombies mode. However, after months of rumors and speculation, Activision confirmed that Black Ops 4 will indeed have its own take on the battle royale genre.
The new battle royale mode called Blackout will pit players against each other to fight to the death where only one can survive. The official website for Call Of Duty also revealed that Blackout can be played in solo or in teams, which is similar to Fortnite and PUBG. However, Activision plans to make the game’s battle royale mode different from other games by including elements identifiable from previous Black Ops games. Developer Treyarch said that they want to do a battle royale game “the Black Ops Way.”
So what do they mean by a battle royale mode a la Black Ops? Well to start, the map is the biggest one Treyarch as ever made and several of its locations are old maps taken directly from previous installments in the series. Furthermore, several weapons and items from other Black Ops titles will also be included and will feature land, air, and sea vehicles. Lastly, players can take control of iconic characters from the series such as Hudson, Mason, Reznov, and many others.
Besides the new battle royale mode, Activision also explained in detail the new Zombies campaign, which will be set across three unique maps. Also, the campaign will debut three unique missions (IX, Voyage of Despair and Blood of the Dead) that offer the most significant Zombie experience in the history of the franchise. Furthermore, the Zombies campaign will feature a brand new cast of characters and a new enemy to keep players on their toes.
Lastly, the event confirmed that Black Ops 4 won’t have the traditional single-player campaign that has been a staple in previous titles. Instead, the game will include solo missions that will focus on each of the Specialist characters in Black Ops 4.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled to release on October 12 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
