Last February, Square Enix surprised everyone when they released Chrono Trigger on the PC, exciting longtime fans of the game. However, people were quickly disappointed when they discovered that the game was just a port of the mobile version with unpolished graphics and controls.
Yesterday, Square Enix was hoping to rectify the situation and announced that:
“We have been working on addressing the issues that you’ve raised, and we will be releasing a number of patches over the coming months to support Chrono Trigger on Steam,” said community manager Sunil Godhania in a Steam post. “We’re aiming to release the first of these patches in the first half of April, and the biggest change is that it will include an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics and the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.”
Hopefully this patch, and the rest of the updates that Square Enix has in store will transform the game into the Chrono Trigger port we deserve on the PC. Square Enix’s next patch should also include an overhaul of the game’s user interface, optimizing it for the PC instead of lazily porting the mobile version.
