Crimson Moon Review: Killer Game, Killer Price

Story and Gameplay

I've been following Crimson Moon for a minute now, and while I was increasingly impressed with what I saw at each show, when I saw the game was going to launch at $19.99, I became a bit more apprehensive about my excitement for the game. I've been playing the review build for a week or so now, and I've fallen in love with this bloody good time.

Now look, I'm not going to bore you with all the lore and details, but I will say there are quite a few lore bits to not only collect but to dig deeper into, and this world is surprisingly fleshed out.

What really matters is the gameplay, though — and boy oh boy, are you in for a treat! It's a bit confusing at first, mainly due to the inventory and build systems, and it takes a while to get used to the game and start putting together solid runs. But once you get the hang of things, it’s very satisfying to figure out the game’s roguelike run system, and weapons, special skills, throwables, and lore bits are super addicting to collect. The "just one more run" fever will strike. There's a ton of content here, especially at a discounted price.

Graphics and Sound

I hate to sound like a broken record, but the artistry and quality on display here is quite something, especially considering the price point. Massive props to the artists, coders, and engineers behind this little wonder.

The first thing to do on PC: turn your post-processing effects to low or medium. Why modern developers insist on adding motion blur and chromatic aberration to their otherwise gorgeous games is beyond me. But the graphics here can be stunning in areas, with some gory finishers that are oh so delicious. From dark graveyards to dim castles and beautiful groves of trees in fall, the levels seem limited at first but open up as you progress. In some spots, this is just as pretty to look at as any AAA game.

Sound fares even better. Smashing sound effects, sizzling spells, and thrashing bits of the metal soundtrack just work. This is an audiovisual triumph for a budget-priced game. I took a ton of screenshots and videos of these gorgeous levels during my time with the game, and just look at this beauty:

Feedback and Verdict

Crimson Moon isn't perfect, as some of the UI elements need polish, especially on a 4K display. Parts of the interface and inventory are a pain to manage and can be confusing, which brings down our score, but these are all small nitpicks in the grand scheme of things.

In the end, I loved Crimson Moon. Whether you're fighting solo or with a friend, this is an absolute riot and just plain fun throughout. It's not only one of the best deals in gaming right now, it's also one of the best surprises of 2026. It’s easy to pick up, hard to master, but filled with satisfying action and exploration, making this a bit of a hidden gem, especially in such a busy gaming season. The folks at ProbablyMonsters deserve your support for launching an incredible game at such a low price.

In an industry and world where greed runs rampant, this is truly one of the best gaming deals we’ve seen. Highly recommended.
