Crimson Moon combines punishing soulslike combat with slow and steady build crafting across multi-stage runs to create a compelling roguelike experience. At a mere $19.99, it’s also quite a steal, offering plenty of hours of fun at a budget price. If you’re thinking of checking out this new title from developer ProbablyMonsters, though, you may be curious about how much time you’ll get out of it. That’s hard to say for certain, but let’s take a look.
How long does it take to beat Crimson Moon?
Due to the roguelike nature of Crimson Moon, it’s hard to say exactly how many hours it’ll take you to clear everything it has to offer. While beating the game’s final boss may come relatively easily to you on lower skull difficulties, you can rest assured that better loot, more XP, and tougher challenges await behind higher difficulties, giving you a reason to continue playing well past a single victory. This means there are potentially dozens of hours’ worth of runs to experience for those looking to really get the most out of this one.
Obtaining full completion of the game can add even more playtime to the clock. Not only will you need to finish all the missions and beat all the bosses, but you’ll also need to kill a smorgasbord of enemies, reach level 30, collect a lot of lore scrolls, and even finish some objectives without losing a life. Much of this will come naturally as you play, but it will nevertheless be a bit of a time investment to unlock it all.
Of course, don’t forget that Crimson Moon is playable entirely in co-op, too, where players share a set number of lives. For two skilled players, this can provide an easier experience — though those who struggle to keep up may bring the other player down. It’s a risk and reward system designed to ensure you work together and synergize your builds properly.
If all of that sounds up your alley and you want to dive in to start hacking and slashing your way through some missions (solo or with a friend), Crimson Moon is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. See what we thought about this challenging roguelike in our Crimson Moon review.
