Let’s get one thing straight: 2025 has been an incredible year for Magic: The Gathering. From the nostalgic brilliance of Innistrad Remastered, to the commander chaos of Tarkir: Dragonstorm, and even the crossover magic of Final Fantasy, there’s truly been something for everyone. Heck, even Aetherdrift, like it or not (I like it), brought some new mechanics for jank decks into the mix. But out of all of this year’s releases, the crown jewel of limited play might just be the last in-house Magic set of the year: Edge of Eternities.
This set slaps. If you’re a Limited fan—whether you live for the thrill of a draft or the strategy of sealed—Edge of Eternities feels like the set we've been waiting for. It dials back the complexity of three-color builds (a direct contrast to Tarkir) and focuses hard on distinct, powerful two-color pairings. Each archetype has a clear identity, mechanics that synergize beautifully, and signpost uncommons that make navigating your deck’s plan incredibly intuitive. It’s fun, it’s flavorful, and it’s surprisingly accessible for newer players.
I’ve been deep in the trenches on this one, drafts and sealed on Arena, homebrew sealed with friends, and even a good ol’ fashioned pre-release at my LGS. Across all of those formats, one thing keeps becoming clear: Black-Red Void Sacrifice is a powerhouse. It’s consistent, explosive, and packed with synergy. But don’t sleep on Green-White Counters either. That’s what I ran at pre-release, going 3-3 with a bit of Landfall spice in the mix. Sure, Landfall could use a bit more punch in this set, but there are a few bombs in that archetype that can turn the tide if they land.
Bottom line: Edge of Eternities is Limited Magic at its best. It’s draftable, it’s replayable, and it hits that sweet spot between mechanical clarity and strategic depth. Whether you're a seasoned grinder or just getting into sealed with some friends, this set deserves your attention.
If you’re only playing one Limited set this year—make it this one.
Edge of Eternities fully releases physically today! And it has been out on Arena for about a week now so you might have a little bit of experience if not don’t be afraid of it! Go pick up a Booster Box to Draft with friends, get one of the commander decks (I recommend World Shaper, it's a ton of fun), or just look out for the single cards you’re looking for. I'm sure people will start trading them soon!
