I’ve been playing Enshrouded since day one of Early Access, and watching it grow into what it is now has been one of the more satisfying things I’ve followed in recent years. A lot of survival games launch into Early Access with a clever hook and then stall out, slowly bleeding players while the roadmap quietly stops updating. This one did the opposite.
Every major update made it better, deeper, and more confident in what it wanted to be, and 1.0 feels less like a finish line than a milestone on a road the team is clearly still walking.
What comes through most is how much the developers care about this thing. You can feel it in the polish, in the small quality of life touches that nobody would have complained about missing, and in the sheer scope of what they’ve built. The world is enormous and dense rather than enormous and empty, which is a harder trick than it sounds.
Building, exploring, fighting, and surviving all pull their weight, and the systems talk to each other in ways that keep you engaged long past the point where most games in this genre start repeating themselves. It’s also genuinely beautiful. The art direction has been strong since the beginning, and the 1.0 version takes it further, with lighting and environment work that keeps stopping you mid-task to look around.
The new voice acting is a real treat too, adding weight to a world that previously told its story more quietly. Performance is the one area still needing attention, with some rough patches that a few optimization passes should smooth out (bring on the DLSS frame gen!) It never ruined a session for me, but it’s the honest caveat on an otherwise excellent package.
There’s an enormous amount of content here already, and the player-made worlds extend that well past whatever the developers shipped. Solo or in co-op with friends, this holds up beautifully, and the price remains one of the fairer deals in the genre.
Verdict
Enshrouded is a survival action RPG worth your time, and after following it this long, I’m genuinely happy to see it land where it has. An absolutely stellar game at more than a fair asking price. Highly recommended, and in a world of copycat drivel, Enshrouded stands out as something truly unique, fresh, and most of all fun to play.
