It’s been almost seven years since the last mainline entry to the Gears of War franchise. Many have waited patiently to go back to Sera and continue blasting the Locust into smelting.

Thankfully, The Coalition surprised everyone with the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, with fans of the series feeling even more anxious now that they’ll have the chance to experience Emergence Day. So, to keep your hype high, here is everything you need to know about Gears of War: E-Day.

What is the release date for Gears of War: E-Day?

There is no official release date for Gears of War: E-Day, other than that it will release in 2026. Leaks suggest a potential release in September 2026.

What platforms will Gears of War E-Day release on?

Gears of War: E-Day will release on PC and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release.

What price is Gears of War: E-Day launching at?

There is no official confirmation regarding Gears of War: E-Day’s pricing. Given the industry standard, it will most likely be available at $69.99, the standard.

How does Gears of War: E-Day’s gameplay work?

No gameplay footage or details have been released yet. However, Gears of War: E-Day is similar to its predecessors since it’s a third-person shooter. Still, creative director Matt Searcy told IGN in an interview that the game will be back to feeling “like a horror story.”

Searcy also added that, on top of the series’ classic cover mechanics, fans can expect “new techniques, new processes, and new technology,” which, hopefully, will make the gameplay “better than ever.”

What is the plot and setting of Gears of War: E-Day?

Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set 14 years before the original Gears of War. Both Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago will return, and the game will take place during Emergence Day (E-Day). That is, to those unaware, the day the Locust Horde decided to initiate a planet-wide assault of Sera, a planet which had just suffered through the Pendulum Wars.

Will Gears of War: E-Day release on PlayStation 5?

With Microsoft and Xbox releasing their main titles, such as Starfield, on Sony’s console, it is rumored that Gears of War: E-Day will come to the PlayStation 5. This is especially plausible because Gears of War: Reloaded was released on the PS5 on day one.

However, Phil Spencer’s successor, Asha Sharma, has made significant efforts to bring the Xbox brand back to life, such as ditching the “Microsoft Gaming” label and lowering the price of Game Pass. This, potentially, could mean that E-Day would remain exclusive to PC and Xbox, but only time will tell.
