The anime-inspired characters in Screamer are certainly one of the most striking aspects of the game, even outside of the story mode with fully animated cutscenes. Each one comes with a unique skill that dictates how you’re meant to play them.
Unfortunately, some are more complicated than the short blurb you see at the character select screen or the pause menu would lead you to believe. You also might not remember which Tournament episode explained how a particular skill worked. Follow below as we list how every character’s skill in Screamer works.
All character skills in Screamer explained
For consistency's sake, we’re listing the characters from left to right as they appear on the character select screen. Remember that every group of three makes up one team. We’ll also provide further information on any skills that were explained confusingly.
Keiji Sato: Emotional Manipulation - Overdrive performance increases in line with the amount of Sync available. This means that you’ll drive and brake faster in Overdrive when you have more Sync meter.
Noboru Sato: Former Glory - Generates Entropy while in S.G.U. and through Active Shifting.
Akemi Nomura: Something To Prove - Executing a KO in Overdrive freezes its timer and activates a free Shield. This means you can extend Overdrive by triggering multiple KOs.
Frederic Barthelemy: Reaper’s Dance - Strike is empowered and grants additional Sync on KO. While Striking, Frederic explodes on collision with track boundaries.
Hiroshi Jackson: Unstable Boost - While Boosting, can make it last longer. This means that after you boost, a prompt will appear a few seconds later that allows you to trigger another boost.
Roisin Garrity: One More Freckle - Strike costs less Entropy and can be performed continuously.
Hope Kaminsky: Interest Rate - Sync generation is increased based on available Sync, and Sync is not depleted after explosion.
Gabriel Mertens: Ruthless Heir - Generates Entropy as well as Sync after a Strike KO.
Dirk Van Wyk: Blood Thirst - On Strike KO, activates a powered-up Strike. This means a faster and longer period of Strike is activated.
Lavinia Ricci Antinori: Hyperactive Boost - Perfect Boost is extremely powerful, but the timing required to activate it changes each time. This means that the yellow triangle will be in a different place every time you boost.
Aisha Waghmare: JSI Defense System - The first time Aisha is KOed or explodes, automatically activates an emergency Shield.
Gregor Falkenstein: Echo Evolution - Can evolve the Echo System by using Sync. Boost, Strike, and Overdrive are more powerful and last longer when evolved. This means you can progressively enhance these abilities up to two times over a race’s duration.
Hina Yamano: Go Go SFR - Hype is gained while Drifting. At 100%, gain a cheaper, enhanced Strike. Hype is a meter exclusive to the Strike Force Romanda team that works differently for each member.
Ritsuko Imai: Take Your Heart - Hype is gained on position changes. At 100%, gain Sync over time.
Akane Hyuga: Strike Forcers’ Favorite - Hype is gained passively, by Active Shift and in SGU. At 100%, gain a free, enhanced Boost.
Hopefully this concise list of every Screamer character’s skill (and occasional further breakdown) is handy for you. We have additional guides explaining how to perform Perfect Boosts and how to unlock characters and tracks if you need more help.
Screamer is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
