If you’re a roller coaster nut like me, or even if you’ve just been waiting for something new at Universal Studios Hollywood, the wait time for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is over! Well, kind of. The epic ride from legendary roller coaster manufacturer Intamin finally has an opening date in sight, but this doesn’t mean you’ll just be able to waltz on no problem. This is a huge deal for Universal Studios as it’s their first-ever outdoor roller coaster, so you should plan on huge wait times possibly even with express passes.
A few things to keep in mind with this brand-new ride: there are going to be some very strict rules before boarding. You must have all of your personal belongings in a complementary locker before boarding, and they will be enforcing this by having metal detectors before the loading platform. This may seem extra, but it does really make sense from a safety standpoint. This isn’t your average roller coaster. It flows over the top of the escalators leading down to the lower lot and it travels near where the tram is, the risk of items flying out of your pocket is no longer just property loss it’s a possible danger to guests.
Keeping that in mind, I know you’re excited, but stay patient. Hollywood Drift will have a limited capacity during HHN, and it will likely have extensive wait times during the day. So either plan accordingly or don’t give into the FOMO and wait a while.
