While I have already been excited for November 8th to get here so that I could get my hands on Death Stranding, the first game to come from the independent Hideo Kojima development team Kojima Productions, but seeing so much gameplay at the Tokyo Game Show has build my hype to a new level! Being able to fully see what the game will hold and a few of the surprises that we could come across or encounter was awesome. Not only is there obvious stealth moments, the fight sequences looked like an improved version of the Metal Gear Solid 4 style gameplay we had during Kojima’s height moment at Konami.
Watching Norman Reedus run through the open landscape was something we had already seen coming, but there were so many things shown off that I was surprised and delighted to see. The hovercart that carries the gear for you so it isn’t on your back causing balancing issues was neat, but then he took the stuff off and road it like a hoverboard to scout that camp was probably the first moment of the gameplay session that caught me off guard. Finding a bike to ride through the world was expected with the badass roles that Reedus is known for.
My favorite moment of the entire gameplay was his encounter with, what I have nicknamed, the Shadow Dog! Sure, the fight only consisted of throwing grenades and proper movement, but seeing how you will have to use the area around you to survive brings times of quick thinking ahead. Watching yourself get dragged back is sure to be a heart racing moment as well. However, it was the end of the fight that I felt an answer to the oddities in this game was given. The moment he defeated the Shadow Dog, all of the water in the area dissipated as if it was never there. Seeing the water vanish along with the enemies dissolving body made me realize why the term “Stranding” was used in the title, but what role does it have in the overall lore of this game?
Anyways, check out the near 50 minutes of gameplay for yourself and comment below which part of the gameplay has you most excited for the release.
