With Dragon’s Dogma 2 quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to either replay or discover for the first time Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Originally launched for PS3 and Xbox 360 clear back in 2012, it since has received an enhanced edition with improvements and additional content dubbed Dark Arisen that launched for PC, PlayStation, Xbox One, and Switch. We’ve been playing the PC version as of late in total stoked mode for the upcoming, overly due sequel.
Many grand adventures await those who seek this MASSIVE open-world slice of unique gaming world that has a gorgeous soundtrack, some incredible effects and set pieces, especially when it comes to boss fights, dragon encounters, etc. It can be incredibly difficult and challenging especially during traveling at night when things are pitch black without the use of a lantern and enemy count goes way up. It’s a crazy blend between the old school titles Gothic, some Soulslike difficulty thrown in for good measure, and just exploring every nook and cranny a la Zelda.
While there is definitely some janky pieces to the game, it is well worth your time and gaming dollar in 2024. If anything, Dark Arisen is so utterly unique even with so many open world RPGs out there, that alone deserves your attention.
