At the Annapurna Interactive showcase, yesterday Heart Machine showed off the latest gameplay trailer for their upcoming game, Solar Ash. The trailer featured new footage of the game and its world, highlighting some unique traversal mechanics, environments, and boss encounters all set to a stylized musical score. Solar Ash’s segment of the showcase ended by revealing an official release date of October 26th, 2021.
Solar Ash is Heart Machine’s second game as a studio, their first being the critical darling Hyper Light Drifter which released in 2016. Hyper Light Drifter was well-received for its striking, 2-D art style and intricate combat system as well as the decision to tell the game’s story with a complete lack of dialogue.
It seems Heart Machine is just as keen on keeping the plot of Solar Ash under wraps; neither this trailer nor the announcement trailer released last year offer any concrete details about the game’s narrative. We only have to wait a couple more months to answer that call when Solar Ash releases on October 26th, 2021 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
