Terrifying Beauty

While graphics tend to take center stage in most gaming showcases and demos, one can never estimate the power of quality audio devices, especially when it comes to horror games. Well, now you can have the best of both worlds. I recently took a spin with the fantastic Amnesia: Rebirth and paired it with the latest headset from Creative, the SXFI Gamer headset and oh what a terrifying yet thrilling and surreal experience it was...

Every heartbeat, every water drip, every scream in the dark was absolutely fantastic in Amnesia: Rebirth paired with the SXFI Gamer.

First off, just like almost every piece of gear we test from Creative, the SXFI Gamer is a stunning, high quality headset that is not only built like a tank in the quality department but it is comfortable to wear, chock full of features and best of all, the audio is sublime. I’ve tested countless headphones and headsets over the years but I have to say, especially for gaming, the SXFI is one of the most clear and balanced pieces of audio tech we’ve ever tested.

While some headsets sound great for FPS and shooters with deep, booming base but usually turn muddy for music, speech and subtle sounds. The SXFI excelled in all departments and Amnesia was the perfect soundstage to place it on. The game ranges from crisp dialogue to booming explosions and scares to whispers in the dark, all perfectly rendered on the SXFI. I was shocked how stunning it all sounded, regardless of what was going on in the game. I was truly immersed.-

Dear Diary, I want 10 more pairs of SXFIs. Sincerely, Dead Guy.

In the end, I can’t heap enough praise on both the game and this killer piece of audio goodness. While I can give plenty of recommendations for games of all genres and gaming hardware of all types, it is truly rare that I say, no matter what you’ve got to do, grab a copy of Amnesia: Rebirth and a pair of SXFIs and get blown away this Halloween Season. You will absolutely not regret it. I give both my absolute highest recommendation.
