Although the second main boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong doesn’t sport an official name, he’s difficult enough to make him a one-of-a-kind encounter. After you beat the Moss Mother and the Bell Beast, you’ll be facing off against a giant ant with a skull mask deep within The Marrow.

How to defeat the unnamed ant skull boss in Silksong
The easiest way to beat the skull ant boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong is by jumping and hitting it while pointing down. Luckily, this guy doesn’t have more than one phase, so once you get the gist of it, it gets easier to tackle.
First, I recommend throwing some of your Straight Pins at it. This is a tool you can pick up in the room where you free Grindle from his jail cell. The ant skull boss will roar for a few seconds before actually attacking you, so use this time to throw some pins at him or stab him with your weapon.
The trouble now is to always avoid his swings. Sure, you can block it by hitting him at the right time, but that doesn’t actually parry. The trick is to jump up, point downward, and attack from above right before or after he swings.
Once you see him swing, move as far back as you can. You’ll have another moment right after his last swing (he only swings twice) to land a hit on him before he burrows back underground. Keep doing this and take your time. Even if you’re only getting one stab in at a time, it’s worth saving your health.
Distance is key in this fight, and knowing when to push forward and back off. Eventually, you’ll finish him off and have access to more of the map now that he’s gone!
