Minecraft Dungeons 2 gives players access to plenty of resources, weapons, artifacts, and talismans that can be earned from quests, discovered through exploration, or dropped from enemy mobs and overworld bosses. These valuable drops allow players to use these items in various ways, and one such important drop actually helps them gain access to better armor, weapons, talismans, and more when visiting a merchant shop: Echo Shards.
Echo Shards are a new resource in Minecraft Dungeons 2, but veteran Minecraft players will be familiar with them; however, their usage is quite different between the two games. Learning what they are and how they’re best utilized can make a significant difference during a playthrough, so let's take a look at how they work.
What are Echo Shards in Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Echo Shards are a type of resource, along with Emeralds and Enchantment Points, to name a few, that you can earn during your adventure across Brave Haven. Unlike Emeralds, which are much easier to acquire, Echo Shards require you to be the bravest and strongest person in Brave Haven and engage in combat by defeating enemies. In return, you’ll be rewarded with various items, including Echo Shards.
Echo Shards are quite rare and also quite hefty to travel around with, as the amount of Echo Shards one can carry at a time is capped. As such, players can only carry a maximum of 100 Echo Shards and won't be able to carry more, so you’ll want to spend these shards when the opportunity arises.
How to find and use Echo Shards in Minecraft Dungeons 2
Echo Shards can be obtained through combat in a few ways, but you must ensure that your armor and weapons are strong enough and have unique effects that may help you when in battle. The best and most efficient way of acquiring Echo Shards is by clearing replayable dungeons and rifts, which can be first discovered through quest progression.
Additionally, you can also earn Echo Shards from defeating overworld bosses and Soul Storm events alongside other valuable rewards like Emeralds, Talismans, and armor and weapon drops. As for using Echo Shards, they can be used to level the town merchant and Enchantsmith stores found throughout Brave Haven by visiting one and selecting the Upgrade button at the bottom right.
However, to unlock the town merchants in Brave Haven, you must complete the Core Quests, The Lost Merchant and Training with the Enchantsmith, to have them set up shop in the town square. Once they've set up shop, this permanently unlocks their services, which can be found across Brave Haven, where you can purchase and enhance items.
One thing to note is that the merchant and Enchantsmith's inventory is refreshed every 30 minutes, and there is a free refresh that can only be redeemed once. Likewise, it is recommended to reach Level 10 and use the Echo Shards to upgrade the merchant and Enchantsmith level to gain access to higher rarity items for purchase and upgrade their Enchantments.
