Many of those who are looking forward to Naughty Dogs continuation of The Last of Us, which continues to have a following and active player base today, have seen some of the videos they have been releasing as we get closer to release for The Last of Us Part II. Above we have the State of Play video which is an in-depth commentary of the various aspects the game will contain and what it has to offer while featuring both cutscenes and gameplay. Then we have the “Inside the Story” video and the recently released “Inside the World” video giving the specific details accordingly. And of course, the story trailer that showed us what is driving Ellie in this adventure.
But what I find to be bringing me the most hype as I await my pre-order to unlock this June 19th is a mixture of getting back into the gameplay and these intense cinematics they’re releasing. They shared a brief one that gave little clips not long ago, but they gave us an extended commercial version that shows the danger within this world. We all thought that the first game had danger lurking everywhere, but if these videos are giving us anything, it is a hint that no corner is to be turned without caution.
Besides the anticipated increase in dangerous territory, the emotion shown in Ellie goes further than anything we saw in the first game. Sure, Joel had a great goal and the bonding experience between him and Ellie was an epic of its own, but you can see an internal struggle to fight her fear and lead with her hate at the ending of this commercial. After barely surviving the building filled with both human and clicker enemies, taking cover to hide from her pursuers, she goes back to the memory of who she is fighting for to overcome her fear and seek out that revenge she longs for.
I’ll admit that when I first saw the extended commercial was only a minute and twenty seconds long, I thought it was kind of pointless to have made. But after watching it, I can see that it was worth it because it shows more passion than the original cut-up version. Maybe that’s just me letting my hype for this game overthink the video, but take a look for yourself and let me know in the comments below; is this extended commercial not driving a hype train on its own?
