Lumines Arise - Reveal
From the creators of Tetris Effect comes Lumines Arise—a vibrant blend of rhythm and puzzle gameplay that feels like a music video you can actually play. Honestly, it reminded me of those old-school music visualizers or maybe Tetris... but with circles. Still, it looks fun and I’m curious to try it out.
Pragmata - Release Date In 2026
Announced four years ago, Pragmata is that game that occasionally pops back into the spotlight just to remind us it still exists. Unfortunately, it’s been delayed time and time again, this time to 2026. While that stings, I’m honestly just glad it hasn’t been scrapped or rushed. I’ve believed in its potential since the reveal, and if it takes an extra year to get it right, I’ll gladly wait.
Romeo Is a Deadman - Reveal
SUDA51 and Grasshopper Manufacture? That’s all I needed to hear, I’m in. The trailer kicked off with a wild animation that had me laughing immediately, and once the gameplay hit, it screamed SUDA51 in all the best ways. The setting even gave me some Dead Rising vibes. It’s the first new SUDA51 game in over four years, and I’m hyped.
Silent Hill f - Release Date Septemeber 25th
Happy to finally get a date for Silent Hill f, but honestly? This was probably the most predictable announcement of the show. Of course we were going to get a Silent Hill update. Still, WOOP WOOP! September 25th can’t come soon enough.
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement - Reveal
I haven’t played the previous Bloodstained games, but after this trailer, I might have to fix that. The mix of action combat and sidescrolling platforming looks super solid.
Digimon: Story Time Stranger - Release Date October 3rd
DIGIMON. DIGITAL MONSTERS. DIGIMON ARE THE CHAMPIONS! I’m so down for a new Digimon RPG. We’ve got a solid release date in October, plus pre-order bonuses and a Deluxe Edition that includes a season pass with three DLCs. Chaos incoming, and I’m ready for it.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles - Release Date September 30th
Hot take: I love Final Fantasy Tactics. (Okay, maybe not that hot.) It’s one of those games 90s kids can’t forget, and I’m thrilled it’s getting some love. I used to sink hours into this game growing up, and I’m more than ready to lose hours again.
Baby Steps - Release Date September 8th
Devolver just does whatever they want and somehow it always works. Baby Steps hasn’t really clicked with me yet, mainly because it’s literally a walking sim, but I’ll admit it looks funny. Curious to see how it lands.
Hirogami - Release Date September 3rd
A platformer built around origami mechanics? That’s a creative angle. I’m going in with low expectations, which usually means I’ll walk away pleasantly surprised.
Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots - Release Date September 5th
State of Play really brought the nostalgia. First FFT, now a new Everybody’s Golf? Loved these games as a kid, and now I’m hoping Everybody’s Tennis returns too.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - Release Date July 31st
I won’t lie, I wasn’t thrilled when I first saw Ragebound. The flashy animation set me up for something wild, and then it turned out to be a platformer. But after taking a breath and looking again, it actually seems pretty fun.
Cairn - Release Date November 5th + Demo Available
It feels like I’ve been hearing about Cairn forever, so I’m happy we finally got real updates, and a demo! Time to see if it lives up to the buzz.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection - Reveal
As soon as I saw Ed Boon, I perked up. When classic Mortal Kombat hit the screen, I was fully locked in. This kollection includes arcade and original console versions, awesome stuff. Though I’ll admit, I’m kind of more excited for the new fightstick that got revealed right after.
Project Defiant: Wireless Fightstick - Reveal
Speaking of which, here’s the aforementioned fightstick! With the amount of fighting games I play, it’s honestly wild I don’t already have one. This might be the push I needed.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater - Release Date August 28th
I’ve only played the first two Metal Gear games, so I’m not totally caught up, but since Snake Eater is a prequel, this might be the perfect time to jump back in. If it does well, maybe Konami will finally remaster 1 & 2. Fingers crossed.
Nioh 3 - Reveal + Demo Available
Oh cool another Nioh game, WAIT ANOTHER NIOH GAME??? YES. Totally out of nowhere, but that’s how you do a reveal: announce it, show it off, and drop a demo. No Early Access nonsense, just give me a taste. Love it.
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow - Reveal
The Thief series in VR makes sense, but making it VR-exclusive feels like a misstep. The VR trend seems to be cooling off lately, and this could’ve reached a much wider audience with console support. Bit of a bummer for me.
Tides of Tomorrow - Release Date February 24th, 2026
What in the Waterworld?!?! Out of nowhere and right onto my wishlist. Tides of Tomorrow looks like a cool multiplayer story-driven experience. The trailer was great, and I’m intrigued.
ASTROBOT - DLC
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2024 GOTY: ASTROBOT! I’m genuinely happy to see this game getting its flowers, it’s always refreshing when something a little different gets love. I hadn’t heard about any updates since launch, so this was a welcome surprise.
Sea of Remnants - Reveal
If I had a nickel for every sailing-themed game in this State of Play, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice. Jokes aside, I’ll never get tired of pirate adventures. It's a genre we don’t see enough of when it's done right.
Sword of the Sea - Release Date August 19th
From the team behind Journey and ABZÛ comes Sword of the Sea, which feels like a fusion of both. Giant Squid has my full attention. It looks serene, fast, and meditative—like surfing through a dream.
007 First Light - Reveal
An origin story for 007 by the devs behind Hitman? I’m drooling. IO Interactive absolutely nailed the tone, and the trailer gave me everything I wanted: slick spy vibes, clever gameplay, and a new take on Bond. I’m all in.
Ghosts of Yotei - Gameplay Deep Dive Announcement
I never played Ghost of Tsushima, but I’ve heard nothing but praise—and the sequel looks absolutely stunning. This one’s an easy win.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls - Reveal + Deep Dive
Closing out the State of Play, Marvel surprised everyone with a deep dive into a game I absolutely wasn’t expecting, and somehow, it’s the one I’m now the most excited about. As someone who loves fighting games in all forms (you can check out my reviews of Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter 6, and Tekken 8 for proof), I’ve always had a soft spot for Marvel vs. Capcom. It’s pure nostalgia every time I see it in an arcade. That series went from 2v2 to 3v3, and now with Marvel Tōkon, we’re looking at 4v4?! That’s wild, and I’m so here for it. The artwork looks fantastic, the combat style feels like pure chef’s kiss, and honestly, I wish this game was out yesterday.
