Top 10 selling games on steam Jan-May 2025
An interesting thing to see is what games are selling and when, the first half of the year has shown us how diverse the games people want are. The top 10 selling games on Steam are: R.E.P.O., Monster Hunter Wilds, Schedule 1, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Kingdom Come Deliverence II, Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Split Fiction, INZOI, Civilization 7, and Elden Ring Nightreign. An awesome spread of games from AAA games like the Elder Scrolls, to games on single person developers like Schedule 1.
After the kickoff of warm words towards what gaming has become today and the message about the best selling games, Geoff Keighly kicked right into announcing some big badass games.
Mortal Shell II
Coming in 2026 the sequel to 2020’s Mortal Shell has finally seen the light of day, along with gameplay and beta sign ups. Honestly a great start to the show. Mortal Shell II not only looks like some badass action but it’s also jam packed with some epic, heavy dark fantasy visuals.
Fortnite: Galactic Battle V Death Star Sabotage
For all you Star Wars fans out there. The next in-game event for Fortnite is here, engage in large scale battles in space and truly get the full Star Wars experience. As somebody who doesn’t play Fortnite often, I still think it’s great that they want to bring everybody’s favorite fandoms to life in a way that anybody can enjoy.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Everybody knows that Geoff Keighly loves Hideo Kojima, and I’m surprised he didn’t have a larger presence at Summer Game Fest, but either way we got another look into Death Stranding 2: On the Beach where we got a new look at who our characters are for the sequel of the hugely popular 2019 release of Death Stranding. Unfortunately no Norman Reedus this time but we’ve got some new characters that are sure to take us on a journey of their own.
Chronicles: Medieval
With a perfectly dramatic narration from Tom Hardy, Chronicles: Medieval looks to be a large scale RTS warfare sandbox game based in Medieval times. The game itself looks like a gritty RTS where you’re not just commanding armies, you’re swinging swords alongside them. If they nail the scale and combat, I’m all in.
Sonic Racing Crossworlds
Obviously Mario Kart has dominated the party racing game scene for… ever probably. There has been competition that pops up every now and then but for the most part they don’t last long. Sonic Racing Crossworlds however looks like it could 100% stand a chance. With some great guest characters like Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona, and Minecraft Steve, and the fact that it’s playable on all consoles, maybe Mario Kart will finally have a run for it’s money.
Code Vein II
Code Vein II leans hard into its anime-Soulslike identity, and I dig it. The art style’s stronger this time, the buddy system’s back, and the customization is still one of the best in the genre. I spent some time with it at Play Days, so I’ll dive deeper soon, but so far, it’s looking solid.
End of Abyss
This game stirred up a lot of chatter during the trailer. To me, this game reminded me of Little Nightmares if it were a top-down stick shooter. It’s got that creepy, eerie feel where the world makes you feel small and out of place. It left a strong impression, and I’m already looking forward to its 2026 release.
Mouse P.I. For Hire
This game’s been cooking for what feels like forever, but I’m still excited. The slapstick style of cartoon animation is always a hit for me. But this wasn’t just a normal gameplay trailer for Mouse P.I., it was a little more exciting than that. What better place than Summer Game Fest to announce that Troy Baker will be joining the crew to voice Jack Pepper. Still planned for 2025, I’m excited to finally see this game hit shelves.
Game of Thrones: War For Westros
No gameplay just a cinematic, but man what a cinematic. One thing Game of Thrones is always good for is grabbing your attention. Even in the trailers they can’t help but kill off your favorite characters. In the trailer you Jon Snow and the Night King are fighting as war rages on around them, and it all boils down to the climax of the trailer where Jon Snow kills the…. HOLY S*%$ DID THEY JUST KILL JON SNOW IN A TRAILER?????? What an attention grabber.
Atomic Heart II
Mundfish sure was busy this year, I think they had a total of three games debut at Summer Game Fest and EACH of them looked like they’re going to be great or at the very least have the potential to. The first Atomic Heart was a sneaky hit. I didn’t expect much from it but ended up really enjoying it. And Atomic Heart II looks even more hectic than ever especially with Queen playing during the trailer amping it up to an eleven.
The Cube
Another Mundfish game, like I said they’ve been busy, The Cube is another FPS Action Adventure game that looks vaguely similar to Atomic Heart but with a few differences. The biggest difference is the changing environment. Since the world is essentially a giant rubix cube the terrain is constantly shifting giving you different vantage points and allowing for some action filled moments.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Beat ‘em ups are having a mini-comeback, and this one feels straight out of a 90s arcade. If you’ve ever wanted to throw down Marvel-style on an arcade stick, this is your moment. Now I just need someone to help me build a cabinet in my living room.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
It looks good—really good. A big graphical upgrade but still keeping that classic Onimusha gameplay. I got to experience some early gameplay at SGF Play Days and I will break it all down in a separate article soon, but short version? It feels like the right kind of throwback.
Felt That Boxing
Apparently Geoff Keighly likes puppets (his words not mine), and after this trailer, I think I do too! Felt That Boxing looks like it was pulled from the chaotic dreams of someone who grew up with Punch-Out and Muppets. It’s weird and hilarious, and I kind of love it already.
Killer Inn
One of the most popular games in the past few year was Among Us, obviously not the first social deduction games, but it definitely made that kind of game mainstream again. So naturally when something is that successful there are generally copycats that are too come, and games that take the idea and make something new out of it. Killer Inn is a social deduction game that really leans into the Murder Mystery but adds a little bit of combat flair. Personally I love Social Deduction games (with the right people) and Killer Inn looks chaotic AF so I think it could have a lot of potential too be really fun.
Arc Raiders
Full transparency: I’m torn on this one. Part of me wants to be excited for Arc Raiders, but honestly, I don’t feel like they’ve given us enough to latch onto. I totally get that games like this need time to bake, especially multiplayer-focused ones, but if you're going to take up space at Summer Game Fest, at least bring something more than a release date. A beta would’ve been perfect. There were countdowns and teases leading into the reveal, so for this to be the payoff? Bit of a letdown.
Dune: Awakening
In contrast, Dune: Awakening immediately outshined Arc Raiders for me. It's a sci-fi survival adventure set in the Dune universe, and it’s launching tomorrow. Take notes, Arc Raiders. There's even a head start available if you want to jump in early.
That said, I know the early access has already been hit with some full server issues, which is a headache for any MMO. But let’s be real: that’s a fixable issue. If you’re a Dune fan—or just a sci-fi fan in general—this one’s worth checking out.
Chrono Odyssey
Dark fantasy and Soulslikes are everywhere this year. I’m seeing a pattern, and while I get it (they're wildly popular), I’m starting to worry about fatigue. If everything starts feeling the same, people might just move on instead of sticking around. That said, Chrono Odyssey does stand out a bit. The world looks unique, the combat seems refined, and they’re doing something smart: an upcoming Steam playtest happening June 20th–22nd. More games should do this.
Wuthering Waves
This one just... showed up to say, “Hey, we’ve got an update coming June 12th.” And that’s it. No big reveal, no surprise, not even a gameplay tease. It felt more like an ad than a proper showcase segment.
Mio: Memories In Orbit
The Metroidvania space is crowded. There’s a new one every week, and most of them blur together because they don’t do much to stand out. But Mio looks different. The art direction is beautiful, the platforming looks tough in a good way, and it might actually bring something fresh to the genre. Plus, a demo is available now, which is always a win.
Out of Words
Every once in a while, a game just radiates creativity. Out of Words is a handcrafted (literally), co-op platformer made entirely in stop motion. Let me say that again: A full stop motion platformer. The visuals are stunning—it gave me light Coraline vibes—and the gameplay actually looks solid, not like an afterthought. If I were on the dev team, I’d be seriously proud of this one.
Mafia: The Old Country
Yes. YES. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
I’ve been waiting forever for a new Mafia game. Honestly, I would’ve settled for a Godfather remake or even just something in that crime family genre. We don’t get nearly enough of them. Mafia: The Old Country isn’t open world, but it looks incredible regardless, and it’s coming August 8th, which means I won’t have to wait much longer.
Lego Voyagers
Couch co-op is a dying art, and that’s a tragedy. Aside from standout hits like It Takes Two or Split Fiction, most games are either online-only or built around massive multiplayer lobbies. So when something like Lego Voyagers comes along, I pay attention. It’s an adorable co-op game where you and a friend play as tiny 1x1 Lego bricks on a wild adventure. It’s charming, creative, and honestly looks like a blast. AND it has a buddy pass so if you own it, your friend can play too!
Carolyn Lawrence Introduces Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny
There are voices you recognize instantly, and Carolyn Lawrence—aka Sandy Cheeks—is definitely one of them. She introduced Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, a fantasy roguelite (looking not confirmed) game starring all your favorite Nickelodeon characters. It sounds like pure cartoon chaos in the best way.
Lies of P: Overture
Sigh.
I’m going to be real with you: I suck at Soulslike games. I gave Lies of P a solid try. It looks fantastic, has an amazing vibe and story, and the combat system is legitimately great. But I couldn’t finish it.
Now with Overture—the DLC—already out, I guess it’s time to climb back in and give it another go. Wish me luck. I’m gonna need it.
Fractured Blooms
I love weird horror—and Fractured Blooms looks weird in all the right ways. It’s a psychedelic horror farming sim. Horror games work differently than horror movies: you’re more immersed, more vulnerable, and the scare styles are way more varied. This one looks uncomfortable in a really intriguing way, and I’m here for it.
Blade & Soul Neo + Blade & Soul Heroes
Honestly? These felt like generic gacha games to me. I couldn’t even tell if they were mobile or not. If Blade & Soul has a strong fanbase, more power to you—but the showcase left me cold. Felt like a paid segment that didn’t offer anything particularly exciting.
Crystal of Atlan x One Punch Man
Do I play Crystal of Atlan? No. Do I love One Punch Man? Heck yeah.
Saitama is easily one of the most recognizable anime characters out there, maybe not quite Naruto-tier, but close. Any game that brings him in is guaranteed to get some buzz, and this collab is no different. From June 26 to July 27, get ready for chaos CoA servers… good luck. You’re gonna need it.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin
Alright, I know this might ruffle some feathers, but I’m just gonna say it: I’m not a fan of The Seven Deadly Sins. If you are, then hey, this is for you. You’ve got a game coming that actually looks fine, even if it does seem to be leaning on fairly generic JRPG mechanics. It won’t reinvent the wheel, but if you’re into the series, you can pre-register now and start counting down.
State of Unreal: Unreal Fest Orlando 2025
Quick intermission from the reveals: this was just a brief spotlight showing off how far Unreal Engine 5 has come. Nothing major, but always cool to see the tech evolve.
Jurassic World Evolution 3
Now this got me excited.
Park builders are my comfort food, and dinosaurs? Absolute obsession. So, naturally, JWE3 has been on my wishlist for a while, JWE2 is starting to show its age. Announcing the next installment right before a new Jurassic World movie? Genius. Best part? It drops October 21st!
Mina the Hollower
I really want to root for games like this. Mina the Hollower looks great, no surprise considering it’s from the devs behind Shovel Knight, but with so many heavy-hitters releasing, I worry it might get overlooked. Still, I have no doubt it’ll be good. I just hope it finds the audience it deserves.
Silks— I mean Deadpool VR
In classic Deadpool fashion, Marvel’s Deadpool VR kicked off with Geoff Keighley fake announcing Silksong, only for Deadpool himself to cut him off and hijack the spotlight. As for the game? It looks fun. My only concern is the timing, VR’s momentum has definitely slowed lately. If this dropped a year ago, it might’ve been a hit. Now? I worry fewer people will actually get to experience it.
Dying Light: The Beast
We’ve got a release date!
Dying Light has always had a solid fanbase, most fans still hold the first game in higher regard than the second, but both have their strengths. Personally, I enjoyed both, so The Beast already had my attention. Now we know it’s coming August 22nd. I even got the chance to try it at SGF Play Days, and I’ll be diving deeper into that soon. Spoiler alert: it’s a ton of fun.
Mixtape
I called it when this was first revealed at TGA, I said Mixtape looked like a potential storytelling masterpiece. After seeing this trailer, I’m doubling down. It oozes nostalgia, clearly wants to tug on your heartstrings, and has an absolutely killer soundtrack (as it should, given the title). This is one I’ve got my eye on.
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree
Yes, the title’s a bit of a mouthful, but this is a huge moment for Bandai Namco: it’s their first roguelike. Think Hades, a dungeon crawler with randomized rooms and end-of-room rewards leading up to bosses. The art is stunning, and the design of the humanoid koi fish character? I’ve literally never seen anything like it. I got to play a demo at SGF Play Days, and I can’t wait for the full release on September 19th.
Acts of Blood
This is pure, stylish action. Acts of Blood feels like John Wick meets parkour, and I really want this one to be good. The closest comparison I can think of is Sifu, and that game was phenomenal. So yeah, fingers crossed for this one. I’m definitely rooting for it.
Scott Pilgrim EX
One thing SGF nailed this year was spotlighting games I didn’t even know I needed. Scott Pilgrim EX is a new chapter in the Scott Pilgrim universe, with input from original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. It’s still the same arcade-style beat-’em-up we know and love, but now on a bigger scale. More Scott, more Toronto, more evil exes. I’m all in.
The First Descendant: Breakthrough
This one’s… not for me.
The First Descendant is a free-to-play MMO that seems to be leaning way too hard into Destiny territory, with a trailer that weirdly focused more on… assets, let’s say, than gameplay. I wasn’t a Destiny fan to begin with, so this felt like more of the same, but hey, if it’s your thing, there’s an August release date to keep in mind.
SCUM
I’ve really tried with SCUM. Gave it a fair shot multiple times, but I just couldn’t find the appeal. I know there’s a loyal fanbase out there, and that’s cool, but personally, I think there are better versions of this type of survival game already available.
Mindseye
Oh, ioi, my beloved.
I’ve been a fan of pretty much everything ioi has put out, and Hitman is one of the few franchises I’ve followed since the beginning. Mindseye feels like a fresh step into new territory for them, and honestly, it looks great. I hadn’t even heard about it until Friday’s stream, and suddenly it’s dropping tomorrow? That’s impressive. Plus, the cheeky little Hitman x Mindseye crossover tease for Summer 2025? Loved it.
Mads Mikkelson Introduces 007 First Light x Hitman
Who better to make a 007 game than ioi? Honestly, no one.
007 First Light is coming soon, but in the meantime, we’re getting a Casino Royale-themed Hitman mission featuring Le Chiffre himself. Fully functional poker and roulette tables, and a chance to take down a Bond villain in his element? Count me in. Total immersion.
Lego Party
Just like Mario Kart has competition, it looks like Mario Party finally does too.
LEGO Party may look cheesier (as LEGO games tend to), but that’s part of the charm. It also boasts way more customization options than Mario Party, which could make it a hit with younger players. Launching later this year, we won’t have to wait long to see if it holds its own.
Wildgate
Games like Wildgate tend to go one of two ways: a rough launch followed by a quick fade… or a strong opening surge before everyone returns to their usual titles. I hate assuming either outcome, because I love seeing new games succeed. That said, Wildgate looks fun, fast-paced, and features exciting ship-to-ship PVP. It has potential—I just hope it sticks.
Blighted
From the folks behind Guacamelee and Nobody Saves the World comes Blighted—a 3D co-op action roguelite that instantly gives off their signature style. The creature designs shown at SGF are intriguing, and knowing the studio’s track record, I’m optimistic. This one could be a sleeper hit.
ILL
Mundfish is back! ILL is a gruesome first-person horror shooter with some of the most unsettling creature designs I’ve seen in a while. This trailer had me on edge from start to finish. Pure, unapologetic horror. And the best part of the trailer… Kick the baby!
Mechabreak
A long-awaited release date is finally here! Mechabreak, one of the most wishlisted shooters, officially launches July 1st. I played a bit of the beta, and for a free-to-play title, it’s surprisingly solid. If this has been on your radar, it’s almost go-time.
Infinitesimals
Small dev teams never stop impressing me. Infinitesimals was developed by just eight people, and it looks stunning. It’s a game where you're tiny in a regular-sized world—which always opens the door for creative, massive level design. I’m really excited to see what this team delivers.
CAPCOM Anniversary Sale Introduced by Maggie Robertson
Maggie Robertson (yes, Lady Dimitrescu herself) serenaded CAPCOM with an eerie rendition of Happy Birthday, setting the stage for EP Jun Takeuchi to reveal the anniversary sale. Oh, and maybe tease a new Resident Evil? Wink wink.
Kenny Omega Introduces Street Fighter 6: Year 3
If you don’t know Kenny Omega, he’s a wrestling superstar and a massive gamer. His finisher is literally named after Sephiroth. So naturally, he was the perfect choice to introduce the Street Fighter 6: Year 3 fighters. Also… yes, he wears a dress. It’s worth watching the trailer just for that.
Last Flag
I get the appeal, I really do, but a strictly capture-the-flag multiplayer game feels unnecessary. The setting looks cool, and it could be fun, but I’m personally not sold on the concept.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Yet another soulslike, but this one actually has me intrigued. I’m not usually a soulslike player, but the design of Wuchang alone makes me want to dive in. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and with a July release date, I’m already eyeing a time slot on my calendar.
Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver
Okay, what did I just watch? Introduced by Ghostface Killah himself, this Wu-Tang Clan game caught me totally off guard. At first, with the murals and the music, I thought we were getting a new Def Jam. Then the actual gameplay hit, and I was straight-up confused and excited at the same time. It looks wild in the best way, and with a soundtrack backed by Wu-Tang, it’s bound to hit hard.
Into the Unwell
Back to that slapstick cartoon animation style I love, Into the Unwell looks absolutely unhinged in the best way possible. It’s a roguelite where you play as a cartoon drunk stumbling through chaotic levels, and honestly, it looks like a total blast. You can already sign up for the closed beta on Steam, and I highly recommend checking it out if you’re into weird, wild fun.
Splitgate 2: Battle Royale Game Mode
Ian Proulx came out and said what we’ve all been thinking: We want Titanfall 3. So what did he do? He gave us… a battle royale mode for Splitgate 2.
Jokes aside, it actually makes a lot of sense. The fast-paced, portal-based gameplay of Splitgate could be the perfect fit for the battle royale format. With its focus on mobility and momentum, this might end up being one of the more exciting spins on the genre.
Stranger Than Heaven
Originally revealed at The Game Awards as Project Century, Stranger Than Heaven is the next spin-off in the Yakuza series, and it’s taking things in a very different direction. We just had Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which was wild and fun in its own right. Now, we’re heading in the complete opposite direction with a darker, grittier tone, taking us back to the mean streets. Yakuza fans are definitely eating well.
Resident Evil Requiem
Hold on—just give me a second to pick my jaw up off the floor. A brand-new Resident Evil game has been announced, and it’s called Resident Evil Requiem. I had a feeling Jun Takeuchi wasn’t going to leave us hanging after that CAPCOM tease, but I didn’t expect this. Not only is it real, we already have a confirmed release date in February! That’s right around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited.
That wraps up the madness—now it’s your turn. What reveal got you the most hyped?
