In a shocking turn of events it appears that Metroid Prime 4 has been in development hell and will now be restarted from scratch. First announced at E3 2017 with a teaser image of the games logo, further info regarding Metroid Prime 4 has been virtually non existent since. Today a new video concerning Metroid Prime 4 has been released on Nintendo’s official YouTube Channel. Shinya Takahashi takes to the screen to update fans on the progress of the game and reveals that the game does not meet “standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series.” Takahashi goes on to explain that development will now be assisted by Retro Studios, the team behind the previous Metroid Prime titles, but as a result of this “development will basically be starting from scratch.”

While I am sad to see such a high profile game having to be restarted, I will never question a decision to make a game better. Bringing on Retro to help in development is also a major plus since the studio would best know the direction they were taking the story and character as a whole. It really amazes me they weren’t a part of the project from the start in even an advisory role. Fear not Prime fans, I think we are all now going to get the game we have hoped for!
