A while back we got the news that the reboot of the classic 2D multiplayer action roguelike Risk of Rain would be arriving as Risk of Rain Returns from the publisher Gearbox Publishing and developer Hopoo Games. Recently we covered the developer diary and some early news on the reboot here.
What just got announced in regards to Risk of Rain Returns is that when it comes out, it will contain a brand new game mode: Providence Trials. In the most recent Dev Thoughts video, we got a whole load of info on the new game mode. Providence Trials will introduce more ways to play and unlock alternate abilities for Survivors. These trials will test everything from a player’s mobility skills to their combat effectiveness and survivability.
In addition to info on the new game mode, we also found out one of the Survivors added to Risk of Rain Returns: the Artificer. First introduced in Risk of Rain 2, the Artificer may be losing their 3D’s, but she retains her diverse kit that rewards players who can rotate through skills quickly and effectively.
If you want more info you can check out the full developer diary here. Risk of Rain Returns will arrive on PC via Steam sometime in 2023.
