PlayStation has announced that they’ll be opening up the game news season with a State of Play broadcast set for next Thursday, June 2nd. The announcement was light on details about specific games players can expect to see in the presentation, but it does confirm that the roughly 30-minute showcase will spotlight games from “third-party partners, plus a sneak peek at several games in development for PlayStation VR2.”
There are several, third-party games slated to come to the PlayStation 5 this year, including exclusives like Forspoken and Stray. As for PlayStation VR2, the only confirmed game as of right now is Horizon: Call Of The Mountain, which is being co-developed by Guerrilla Games and Firesprite. Fans have been clamoring for more news about PlayStation’s upcoming refresh of their VR headset, and it looks like they’re about to get their wish.
The placement of this State of Play puts it front and center in a month that will surely be stacked with video game news. A week after this presentation, Geoff Keighley will take the stage once again for his annual Summer Games Fest Kickoff, and just three days after that Xbox and Bethesda will hold their own showcase. The vacuum that sprang up in the wake of E3’s cancellation is already being filled by other shows, much like it was back in 2020.
PlayStation’s next State of Play will air on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 at 3 PM PT/6 PM ET.
