The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sold nearly 6 million copies within its first week.
According to a press release published by the company on Friday, the latest Pokémon Legends title raked in 5.8 million copies sold within four days of its release. Those numbers take the physical and digital versions of the game into account — and half of those sales were for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Those figures came from Pierre485, a game sales analyst on X (formerly Twitter), who shared a chart comparing the sales units of Pokémon Legends: Z-A to six other Pokémon games that have released in the last decade, and the amount of time it took for each game to sell the same amount of copies, if not more or less. Pokémon Sword/Shield and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl sold 6 million copies each within three days, while Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet respectively sold 10 million and 6.5 million copies in the same timeframe.
Meanwhile, Pokemon X/Y sold 4 million copies in 2 days and Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee sold 3 million copies in three days.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A taking an extra day to sell the same amount of units as Sword/Shield and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl did should tell you something about the state of the Pokémon franchise. Mathematically speaking, based on the chart provided, it should take an average of three days for a Pokémon game to sell 5.9 million copies. Legends: Z-A fell 100,000 copies below the breakeven point.
