The Predator series from Acer requires no introduction. Although, they did come completely out of nowhere just recently and in my humble opinion, changed the gaming monitor scene quite drastically. I absolutely loved the Acer X34 and after that nerdgasm, we've got our hands on two 27" models that share in the stellar qualities of the X34. So, 34" is just too big for you 'eh? Well, let's check out these bad boys in their 27" models. On with the show!
Design and Performance
First off let's list some basic specs:
Acer Predator XB271HU - 27", 2560x1440, IPS, 165hz (!), G-SYNC monitor
Acer Predator XB271HK - 27", 3840x2160 (UHD), IPS, 60hz, G-SYNC monitor
Yeah, so you have some pretty flexible options if you are in the market for the best 27" gaming monitors on the planet. The signature Predator design of black with striking red accents is present in both models, with easy to navigate but very rich set of menu options. Basically, the XB271HU is the most feature-rich and blazing fast monitor I've ever tested. Blasting storm troopers in Battlefront at 165hz was absolutely mind melting in, oh, the best of ways. Also, the sheer amount of options from 60, to 85, to 100 and all the way up to over-clockable 165hz is just awesome. Looking for your new FPS and competitive gaming obsession? The XB271HU delivers in spades.
Oh, so you're a 4K snob then huh? Cool, so am I! While I love a good 27" 1440p monitor, nothing beats the clarity and detail of a 4K rig. So, being a little hesitant after testing the HU, I dived right into the HK. Ok Acer, you've got to stop making such fantastic displays or I am going to run out of words trying to describe them! The XB271HK is razor sharp, has a wonderful image quality to it and with the G-SYNC feature, even 45 FPS feels close to 60. I absolutely love this display and after testing dozens of 4K monitors, I am going to say it loud and proud, the HK is the best 4K gaming monitor in existence.
Value and Conclusion
Well, if you can't tell by now that I am in nerd love with the latest offerings in the Acer Predator series, you better re-read our reviews. That's right folks, there are dozens of "great" gaming monitors out there but there are very few stellar displays such as these, for us that only want the best. While, they aren't cheap, you might never need to buy another monitor again after you get your hands on either model, depending on preference. The HU ($799 MSRP) model is a no brainer if you want 1440p, buttery smooth frame rates and if you are cool with the 27" 44/UHD route. The HK ($899 MSRP) is your best bet. With offerings like this, it's a good time to be a PC gamer!
