As we’ve previously reported, Scott Derrickson, the director and co-writer of Marvel Studios’ film Doctor Strange had exited out of the project due to “creative differences”, leaving some concern as to who would be leading the sequel: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Never fear! Sam Raimi has confirmed that he will be taking in the reigns as director.
Sam Raimi is known to general audiences for his work on the Evil Dead series and the original Spider-Man trilogy. Some keene-eared fans might remember a throwaway line in Spider-Man 2 that referred to Doctor Strange. In a quote with Collider, Raimi reveals his passion for the character:
“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters….”
Raimi’s work combines a horror aesthetic with a good dose of black comedy. What do you think of Raimi taking over for the sequel? Let us know below! The sequel is on track to be released in November of 2021.
