In a new post from Valve today, it would seem that the video section of steam is being largely reworked. In an attempt to diversify its offerings Valve began to sell movies on Steam. It seems those efforts never panned out however as the ability to buy movies is now being removed from the platform. Anyone who did purchase any movies will still be able to access previously purchased content however.
The reason for the shutdown as reported by Valve is the lack of viewership on the content. Watch time on Steam comes from gaming related content and Valve intends to refocus on that aspect moving forward. User and game related video content will as such be reworked from their own dedicated section to instead be a part of a games store page for easy discovery.
Did you ever buy movies on Steam? How do you feel about the removal of the service? Drop some thoughts below!
