The ALIEN roleplaying game that we reviewed at the beginning of the year just won a Gold ENNIE Award for Best Game.
Now, Free League Publishing has announced that the Destroyer of Worlds cinematic scenario has released today, along with an accessible Starter Set that can get anyone jumping into the fantastic tabletop RPG right away. These are the first two expansions of the official line of ALIEN RPG products, available from the Free League webshop.
Andrew E.C. Gaska, the sci-fi author behind the original cinematic scenario in the acclaimed RPG, has returned to pen the Destroyer of Worlds module. Here’s what we know:
A team of Colonial Marines gets dropped onto the moon Ariaricus to handle a growing insurgency, but soon find themselves fighting for their lives against enemies beyond their worst nightmares.
From my experience with the RPG and the first cinematic scenario, this upcoming session is bound to be full of tension and deadly choices that will have a gaming group sweating with anticipation and anxiety.
Here’s a summary of the two latest additions to the ALIEN universe.
The Destroyer of Worlds cinematic scenario will cost $29.99. It’s a boxed set that includes maps, handouts, and cards for a fully immersive tabletop experience.
The Starter Set will cost $49.99, but it’s designed as an affordable and accessible introduction to the roleplaying game. It’s got everything you need—an abridged 104-page version of the core rules, 20 custom dice, reference cards, character handouts, a huge starmap, and the complete cinematic scenario Chariot of the Gods, also penned by Gaska.
This game is the real deal, and I’m so happy that Free League Publishing is continuing to produce content for the official ALIEN roleplaying game that released last December. It’s been one of my favorite gaming experiences, and I can’t wait for it to evolve with the next cinematic scenario and all of the stories left to be told.
What do you guys think, though? Is a Starter Set an appealing way to get started in an RPG?
