This morning, Nintendo announced that Mario Tennis Aces is coming for the Switch this year. There are still tons of details that the company has yet to specify, however, it was announced that the game is slated to be released later this spring.

Unlike some of the titles announced in the recent Nintendo Direct, Mario Tennis Aces will not be a port, but is a completely new game from long-time series developer, Camelot. Check out the brief description of the game released by Nintendo:

“Mario steps onto the court in classy tennis garb for intense rallies against a variety of characters in full-blown tennis battles. New wrinkles in tennis gameplay will challenge your ability to read an opponent’s position and stroke to determine which shot will give you the advantage. And this time the game adds the first story mode since the Mario Tennis game on Game Boy Advance, offering a new flavor of tennis gameplay, with a variety of missions, boss battles, and more.”

The last time Mario Tennis hit consoles was when Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash was released for the Wii U in 2015. Personally, I’m extremely happy and excited that we are getting a tennis game for the Nintendo Switch. During the initial launch of the console last March, I was disappointed by the fact that Nintendo did not include any tennis game at all (given that such a game would be fantastic to play using the Joy-Cons) unlike the popular Wii Sports game that the Wii got for it's launch. The company did not announce details regarding how many players the game will support when it launches soon but hopefully, Mario Tennis Aces can be played by two players on one console using 1 pair of Joy-Cons.

In other Mario news, Nintendo also announced a free update for Super Mario Odyssey called "Luigi’s Balloon World" that will introduce two new competitive modes, Hide it and Find it. You can check them out together with the full summary of the latest Nintendo Direct here
