Wicked Isle DLC Review – A Thrilling Return to Atomfall

Returning to Atomfall through the Wicked Isle DLC feels like slipping back into a radiation-soaked glove—in the best possible way. The base game carved out a unique space in the post-apocalyptic genre with its eerie British countryside and paranoia, and Wicked Isle doubles down on that atmosphere. It’s a real treat to revisit this world with new mysteries, haunting locations, and that signature sense of unease lurking around every corner. Longtime fans will feel right at home, and newcomers have a compelling reason to dive back in. I loved Atomfall and this is a perfect reason to return or extend you adventure. It was a bit odd I couldn’t use my final end game save from the base game but reverted back to an older one was fine.

Visually, Wicked Isle maintains Atomfall’s stunningly detailed design. The foggy moors, crumbling manor houses, and bioluminescent anomalies all look better than ever—thanks to lighting and environmental effects. Rebellion knows how to make impressive yet solid running game engines and I’m all about it! The audio design is equally impressive. The creaking floorboards, distant howls, and static-filled radio chatter once again create a soundscape that’s both immersive and unsettling. It's not just about looking good; it feels like a place you’re surviving in, not just playing through.

Gameplay-wise, Wicked Isle is a blast. It builds smartly on Atomfall’s strengths, offering fresh side quests, inventive puzzles, and enough mutant encounters to keep your Geiger counter ticking. The balance between exploration, survival, and storytelling is spot-on, and the new gear and abilities feel meaningfully integrated. Whether you're navigating deadly anomalies or uncovering the island's dark secrets, there’s a constant sense of discovery. It’s just plain fun—and a strong reminder of why Atomfall made such a hoot to begin with. Just like the base game, no, it’s not perfect but it’s just got so much charm and most of all, it’s just a lot of fun to explore!
