Bandai Namco revealed that a new mobile Dragon Ball fighting game will be released soon. The game is called Dragon Ball Legends and is coming to iOS and Android devices this year.
The upcoming mobile game will feature a combination of 3D fighting and card game mechanics. Furthermore, it will offer a PvP mode, which will allow players to battle each other online all over the world in real time. Dragon Ball Legends will bring three characters during a fight.
To make controls easier on smaller mobile devices, Bandai Namco said that the game would be optimized for mobile, which will allow players to directly tap various cards at the bottom of the screen to launch attacks and combos, rather than a lengthier and more complicated process that belongs to traditional console controllers.
Dragon Ball Legends will not be a mobile port of the recently released Dragon Ball FighterZ. Instead, it will be its own game and will infuse a card-based attack mechanic to make the game more accessible to play on mobile devices.
The game’s roster of characters will include series staples such as Goku, Piccolo, Frieza, and Napa. As of now, those were the only characters confirmed by the developer, but we should expect that more details will be revealed soon. You can check out the available information on the game from Bandai Namco’s presentation in Google’s Game Developer’s Conference (GDC), which is posted above (skip to the five hours, 43 minutes mark for the live demo of the game).
If everything Bandai Namco presented today proves to be true, then Dragon Ball Legends has a real chance of bringing an authentic fighting game experience in mobile. We just have to wait for the developer to release a gameplay trailer, or better yet, an open beta of the game, to assess its potential.
