No matter how much Exclusives may sell consoles, there is no denying the power of third party franchises in the AAA space. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto V have absolutely dominated the sales charts since their release. Yearly sports titles have likewise found significant adoption from fans. But one franchise, in particular, has continued to dominate year after year on Xbox One and PS4 and that is, of course, Activision’s Call of Duty.
According to new data pulled together by LeagueOfBetting, the top 3 best selling Call of Duty titles on PS4 alone were able to sell more than 36 million copies combined! Over on Xbox the top games in the series were able to move an additional 23.6 million copies. In total, the number of Call of Duty titles that have made it into the 10 best selling games lists for each platform has amassed a sales total of 60.5 million worldwide! Check out the charts below to see the full breakdown directly from LeagueOfBetting.
The breakdown is pretty crazy to see and how much it destroys the other yearly running franchises is nuts! Considering Call of Duty has been coming out with yearly releases since 2003 and is still selling so strongly is just unbelievable. This list also only includes 4 of the 7 released Call of Duty titles released during this generation and doesn’t factor in PC sales so the number is actually much higher for the franchise generational totals.
What do you think of Call of Duty continuing to be such a driving factor in the video game industry? Which entry was your favorite?
