Crash Bandicoot will be crash-landing on your TV sooner than you think. An animated series for PlayStation’s famous orange marsupial is now in development at Netflix.
As reported by What’s On Netflix, the streaming platform is producing a new animated show for Crash Bandicoot after its success with other video game adaptations in recent years, including Sonic Prime. No further details about the series have been revealed, so we might not hear about a release date or plot details for a while.
Netflix greenlighting the Crash animated series comes over four years after a leak revealed that another Crash Bandicoot cartoon that was being produced by Activision and Amazon got cancelled allegedly over creative disputes about the script. The leak originated from a post on the Crash Bandicoot subreddit that has since been deleted, but the test animation that came with it is still up on YouTube.
The last time Crash appeared in an animated show was Skylanders Academy, the Netflix adaptation of Activision’s short-lived toys-to-life series Skylanders, in which Spyro the Dragon and his friends attend a school to train and fight to protect the Skylands from evil forces. Crash appeared in the first and third seasons of the show, but fans didn’t appreciate him talking a lot more than he does in his games, which is not much at all.
Meanwhile, Crash’s game franchise has been quiet in the last couple of years. His last game releases were Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time in 2020, the mobile game Crash: On The Run! in 2021, and Crash Team Rumble in 2023.
