Cyberpunk 2077 has gamers squirming impatiently in their chairs, so every new piece of information is exciting. In an interview with GameSpot, CD Projekt Red's John Mamais revealed a lot about the upcoming project. But one important question that he might have answered involved microtransactions. The money-grabbing feature built into many new AAA games has frustrated players, and it’s a controversial topic in the video game industry. But it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 probably won’t have them. Mamais is the head of the Krakow office, which is responsible for a large chunk of the game’s development.
And he stated:
I think it's a bad idea to do microtransactions after you release a game. It seems like it's very profitable, though. It's probably a hard decision for the guy that runs the business to decide if we should do it or not. But if everyone hates it, why would we do something like that and lose the goodwill of our customers?
That doesn’t seem like CD Projekt Red plans to integrate microtransactions into the futuristic game. Which is a welcome relief. Games are getting more and more expensive, with season passes, DLCS, deluxe editions, and all of the other trappings that companies have designed to accrue more profit. If this indicates the absence of microtransactions in Cyberpunk 2077, then we’re happy because it will leave us with more time to just get lost in the mezmerizing experience that gameplay footage and reveals have promised awaits.
Just like Johnny Silverhand, it looks breathtaking.
