How does Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced’s gameplay work?

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is an action-adventure game that follows the spirit of the original Black Flag. The game’s Caribbean world is open for you to explore, all thanks to the Jackdaw, a ship you captain, which will oftentimes engage with enemy vessels in intense naval combat.

The game also retains the classic Assassin’s Creed feel. This includes, but is not limited to, parkour, stealth, takedowns, combat, and, of course, the iconic leap of faith.

What changes does Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced introduce?

Visuals

From the get-go, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced uses Ubisoft’s latest engine, Ubisoft Anvil, which was most recently used by Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This leads to the most obvious change: the visuals. With a far more detailed world, improved lighting, and “prettier” character models, the game looks modern, without deviating too much from the original Black Flag.

Parkour and Stealth

Parkour and core movement have been updated. Edward recovers more quickly from a drop, fluidity is much more refined, and Advanced Parkour is now overhauled with much more precision and finesse.

Stealth also received new features. The classic Eagle Eye now has the Observe feature, introduced in AC Shadows. With it, you’ll be able to observe your surroundings to tag enemies, find your objectives, and unveil clues. On top of that, Edward will now be able to crouch at any time, a mechanic that was introduced in AC Unity, a year after the original Black Flag’s release, and which replaces its contextual, automatic crouching.

One big change is how forgiving tailing and eavesdropping missions are. Now, if you lose your target and Edward becomes out of range, you will no longer become desynced, allowing you to complete the mission.

Combat

The combat’s core remains on the assassin takedowns: hidden blade, perfect parry, wall, and ground. It’s a much faster experience, and now, Edward has a new Dodge Attack, which causes additional damage if timed perfectly, and a Heavy Attack, which is a slower, albeit devastating, swing, which varies depending on your weapon of choice.

Furthermore, enemies are much smarter now, and they will react to your repetitive behavior, forcing Edward to employ multiple takedown tactics should he wish to survive.

The Jackdaw

The Jackdaw also receives its new set of goodies. Three new characters will become available to join your crew, unlocking new features as a result. On top of that, you can also bring pets on the boat, because why shouldn’t you?

Story

New storylines featuring the aforementioned characters and also Black Flag veterans Edward “Blackbeard” Tatch and Stede Bonnet will be introduced in Resynced. The original main story, meanwhile, remains intact, although Resynced will not include the Freedom Cry DLC, featuring Adéwalé.

Regarding the modern story (that is, the post-Desmond Abstergo storyline), it will be completely overhauled. “Modern-day rifts” will not exist to bring light to Edward’s “internal struggles,” focusing exclusively on his journey instead.

Finally, Black Flag Resynced will not bring back the original game’s multiplayer.

What is Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced’s plot and setting?

For those who will play Black Flag for the very same time, the game is set in the 18th-century Caribbean, right at the peak of the Golden Age of Piracy. You play as Edward Kenway, a pirate who becomes involved in a confrontation between the Templars and the Assassins, the two major factions in Assassin’s Creed.

You will visit Nassau, the pirate haven in the Bahamas, Havana, and Kingston, among other minor locations across the sea.

Will Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced release on Switch 2?

At the moment, no Switch 2 version of Black Flag Resynced has been announced. However, given that Shadows was released on Nintendo’s console, albeit months later, an eventual port remains a possibility.
