After almost 20 years, we’re finally getting a new mainline Spyro game with Spyro: A Realm Beyond. Everyone’s favorite purple dragon is slightly older than he was in the original trilogy, and he can now fly in what seems like a large open world. Is Spyro: A Realm Beyond Xbox exclusive?
Thankfully, like Halo: Campaign Evolved, Spyro: A Realm Beyond is not an Xbox exclusive. It will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
What is the price of Spyro: A Realm Beyond?
Currently, no price has been shared for Spyro: A Realm Beyond. As the game seems to have a larger scope than past titles, we’d expect it to be around $59.99/69.99 USD. Nevertheless, Spyro: A Realm Beyond will be available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on day one.
What is the story and gameplay of Spyro: A Realm Beyond?
As the title suggests, Spyro finds himself stranded within a completely new realm. His goal is to find a way home, despite a new force called the Scavs trying to take over the realm. He finds new allies and tries to protect this new place “before it’s changed forever,” according to Xbox’s trailer description.
As for gameplay, you can expect to transition between ground and sky at a moment’s notice with an enhanced focus on full flight. The game’s description states you’ll "carve your path through the skies and chain together dives, climbs, and tight turns as you navigate the world your way.” Indeed, the brief snippet of gameplay we’ve seen shows Spyro flying around and attacking from the sky, but we suspect there will be reasons to get this dragon's feet dirty on the ground, too.
Is Tom Kenny returning to the role?
The original voice for Spyro the Dragon, Tom Kenny, is indeed returning for the game.
“Tom’s performance delivers the plucky youthful courage that is such an important aspect of Spyro’s personality,” said Toys for Bob studio head Paul Yan to Xbox Wire.
