With the airing of the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, Kepler Interactive has shown off some of the first gameplay footage for A44’s upcoming ARPG Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, in a trailer that also reveals a little about the story and world it is set in.
Flintlock tells the story of Nor Vanek, and her quest to kill a God, a feat that neither she nor anyone else is sure is possible. The Gods are described as coming ‘from the great below’, and were initially hailed as saviours, but soon proved themselves to be malicious influences on the land and the people within it, throwing open the doors of the afterlife and filling the plane of the living with monstrous undead.
The gameplay shows Nor fighting it out with enemies, using both a one-handed axe and a variety of gunpowder-based firearms. The opponents themselves range from huge armoured knights to skeleton soldiers to angry emu-like birds. It also shows off some of the powers of Nor’s foxy companion Enki, demonstrating utilizing the creature to leap through attachment points in the air, as well as showing the animal teleporting around the area and holding enemies in place. The jumps show some impressive aerial shots as the player is flung around. The pitch of combining melee, magic, and pistols appears to be something taken very seriously.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is set for early 2023 release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store and Xbox consoles, with a planned day one release on Game Pass.
