Full List Of Winners From THE GAME AWARDS 2018

Another amazing year of gaming goes by and the time for another award show has come to pass. Once again The Game Awards was full of outstanding musical performances, new game trailers, iconic hosts, and a long list of awards to all the winning games. While the winning games weren’t the only ones who deserved an award for their incredible ability to capture our attention and were nominated, there can only be one winner in each category.

Let’s first take notice of the game that won, and truly deserved, the Game of the Year award. If you didn’t catch the show and this is the first you have heard, then I am proud to say that the winner for 2018’s Game of the Year was God of War! Along with Game of the Year, God of War took home the awards for Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game.

The game to win the most awards collectively in 2018 was Red Dead Redemption 2, taking home Best Narrative, Best Score/Music, Best Audio Design, and Best Performance (specifically, Roger Clark as “Arthur Morgan”)! It was no doubt to anybody that Red Dead Redemption 2 was going to win a few awards, but while they were speculated to get Game of the Year, they still left with more than the rest.

Both God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 were both titles that were very deserving for all the awards they won, and possibly a few more. But as there are a variety of gamers, there are a plethora of games out there and it is time to show the love for the rest of the awards won last night. Here’s the full list:

  • Best Ongoing Game - Fortnite

  • Industry Icon - Greg Thomas of Visual Concepts

  • Best Art Direction - Return of the Obra Dinn

  • Best Mobile Game - Florence

  • Best VR/AR Game - Astro Bot Rescue Mission

  • Content Creator of the Year - Tyler “Ninja” Blevins

  • Best eSports Players - Dominique “SonicFox” McLean

  • Best Debut Indie Game - The Messenger

  • Best Independent Game - Celeste

  • Best Fighting Game - DragonBall FighterZ

  • Best Family Game - Overcooked 2

  • Best Strategy Game - Into the Breach

  • Best Sports/Racing Game - Forza Horizon 4

It is incredible to see such a wide variety of games chosen. I thought that the mobile game award would have gone to either Fortnite or PUBG, both nominated, but instead it went to Florence. I also noticed that Nintendo didn’t take a win at all for 2018, which is a rarity. Granted they have Super Smash Bros Ultimate launching today, but they had a few games nominated in a couple categories that just simply didn’t win.

I am looking forward to another year in the game industry and seeing what 2019 will hold for all of us gamers! Did your choice games win the awards you expected? If you don’t agree with the list, who were you hoping to see take some trophies home?
