Games to Play While Waiting for Danganronpa 2x2

While we don’t have a set date yet for Danganronpa 2x2, we know this visual novel murder mystery game is long-awaited. It has been nearly 10 years since Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony was released, and fans of the series are eager for the new take on the second game. But the wait is still long, so why do you play one of these games that are similar to the franchise while you wait for Danganronpa 2x2?

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games is a collection of two iconic Spike Chunsoft games in the Zero Escape series: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and its sequel Virtue’s Last Reward. Like Danganronpa, Zero Escape games are visual novel mystery games that focus more on puzzles. It also has your main cast of characters kidnapped and trapped in a location where they’re meant to be picked off one by one.

This game is similar enough with it being set in a killing game, but it’s also created by the same developers as Danganronpa. If you haven’t tried these two games out yet, you might as well do so now before Danganronpa 2x2 comes out.

AI: The Somnium Files

Speaking of Zero Escape, the director of those games also made AI: The Somnium Files, another visual novel detective game with multiple endings and a murder mystery. You play as a detective who must investigate crime scenes and dreams for clues to find the killer.

This game already has a sequel out, meaning you get to play two similar games to Danganronpa from the mind behind Zero Escape. With its branching narrative, it has a lot of replayability and is well worth checking out.

Ace Attorney

The beloved Ace Attorney series is the closest you’ll get to Danganronpa if you’re looking for a game with a similar trial system. The original Ace Attorney trilogy has you play as Phoenix Wright, a defense attorney, who must tackle multiple cases and defend his innocent clients.

Like Danganronpa, you’ll be collecting clues related to the investigation to then use in court to point out people’s lies and uncover the truth. There are even more games than the first trilogy, which develops the overarching narrative even beyond the main character.

Your Turn To Die

Your Turn To Die -Death Game By Majority- is exactly the kind of game you think it is based on the long title alone. Like Danganronpa, it has a death game with multiple endings. Nearly a dozen people are trapped in a mysterious place and must vote for whoever dies next.

Your vote will change the fate of every player, and you must also find a way to escape alive. It has a unique hand-drawn art style and a diehard fan base, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you already love Danganronpa games.

The World Ends With You

Originally on the Nintendo DS but now available on Nintendo Switch, The World Ends With You is an action JRPG that has you participate in something called the “Reaper’s Game.” Created by Square Enix, it takes place in Shibuya, Tokyo, and has a combat system unlike any game on this list.

Fans claim the definitive version is on the DS, which lets you fight in combat using two screens. This urban, dark story also has a sequel called NEO: The World Ends With You, but the original game is far more worth playing first, even if it’s the Switch version.
