The new Halloween video game is starting to look like exactly what a lot of horror fans have been hoping for. It’s officially a 1v4 asymmetrical horror game set in Haddonfield, where players can either team up as survivors or step into the role of Michael Myers, and it’s currently slated to launch on September 8th, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
After watching the latest multiplayer footage, I couldn’t help but think about Friday the 13th: The Game. Not in a bad way either. In a lot of ways, Halloween looks like it could be scratching that same itch, just with a Michael Myers coat of paint over it. The setup, the tense chase energy, the group survival feel, and that classic asymmetrical horror structure all bring back memories of those chaotic late-night sessions trying to survive with friends.
And honestly, that is exactly why I’m interested.
I have a lot of great memories with Friday the 13th: The Game. It was one of those multiplayer horror games that could create absolute chaos one match and pure comedy the next. Whether you were panicking, getting separated from your group, or just yelling at your friends to stop running straight toward danger, it created the kind of nights that stuck with you. So seeing Halloween lean into a similar formula immediately makes me hopeful that it can capture even a little of that same magic.
I’m not ready to say it’s the next Friday the 13th: The Game just yet, but I am ready to say it looks like it wants to be in that conversation. And for me, that’s enough to be excited. I’ve had some genuinely great nights playing F13 with friends, and I’m really hoping Halloween can come close to delivering that same kind of multiplayer horror chaos.
