How to Beat a Bloodedge Demon Boss in Nioh 3

GuidesNioh 3by Samuel Moreno

Your Nioh 3 experience is guaranteed to be filled with tough bosses and many related deaths. While the main quest line has plenty of challenging fights, few compare to the Bloodedge Demon.

Anyone who’s fought this monster before is well aware of how deadly it is. Quick attacks that shred your health like nothing is certainly discouraging. Fret not - we promise that defeating it is possible. Here’s everything you need to know to beat a Bloodedge Demon Boss in Nioh 3.

How to find a Bloodedge Demon in Nioh 3

The Bloodedge demon will randomly appear in one of the three eras you play through, out in the open world. You'll know one is out there when you see a pop-up saying "A Bloodedge Demon has appeared" or "A Bloodedge Demon has appeared in another era" at a shrine.

A large purple grave marks their location with a sword sticking out. Surrounding it will be bloody graves of others who have died from attempting to take on a Bloodedge Demon.

While you could stumble upon it, that's a lucky chance with as big as these maps are. The best way to find the Bloodedge Demon is by killing revenants.

If it's active on the same map, three red particles will appear and briefly flow in the direction of the Bloodedge Demon. A red arrow will also appear on your map in case you forget.

This monster hits hard and hits fast. It also seems to scale with your own level, as we found it similarly challenging on the same map at level 14 as we did at level 140.

You can see which of the four main elements the Bloodedge Demon will use as a base when summoning the enemy. It can change to the other three after a burst break or a stagger recovery. Keep the status effects of the four elements in mind so you know how to deal with them.

Its set of attacks will also change or be modified by the elements it’s using. Wind and Water are mainly defined by some large AoE and projectile attacks. The former thankfully have long charge times, but the large wave from the latter can be difficult to avoid unless you dodge behind it.

Fire and Lightning have AoE and melee attacks to look out for. Jumping over the former’s fire waves works more often than dodging, while the pinwheel melee is best avoided by dodging to the side. The primary Lightning AoE is slow enough that you can dodge backwards. Its lunging melee attack can reach very far and typically kill in one shot, so take care to avoid it.

Due to how strong it is, being able to switch off who it's focusing on is great. Fighting one with a summoned acolyte is wonderful unless it dies early on. Tackling this foe in co-op can be a breeze as long as everyone is careful.

Although memorizing its attack patterns and learning how to deflect them with Samurai Style feels nice, the rapid and chaotic nature of the attacks make this especially difficult. We recommend going with Low Stance if you want to use Samurai Style.

That being said, you will probably have an easier time using the dodges of Ninja Style. Avoiding attacks and then going in for some quick pokes is a safe strategy, which pairs well while playing as a Ninja. Adding on some Ninjutsu attacks and Onmyo Magic will ultimately feel like you’re cheesing the fight, but a win is a win.

Defeating the Bloodedge Demon will reward you with a bunch of high-level loot relative to your own level. You can also earn an obscene amount of Amrita. Even at level 142, defeating one gave me enough to level up three times. It’s a difficult fight, but the experience and rewards are very much worth it.
