Mouse P.I. For Hire: How to Unlock Prize Tokens

Mouse P.I. For Hire has many collectibles to find while investigating your cases in Mouseburg. Some flesh out lore, while others expand a particular minigame. However, one of the rarest collectibles is prize tokens.

You need to collect 20 of these to unlock a reward from Spike-D’s Token Prize D-Spenser. The grind might be worth it if you don’t want to miss anything in the game. Here’s everything you need to know about how to unlock prize tokens in Mouse P.I. For Hire, including what the unique reward is.

Play Baseball Card Matches

The first method for unlocking prize tokens is by winning matches of the baseball card minigame. This is accessible at the Little & Big pub near your P.I. Office, as well as at any Roadhouse on the map.

Each victory will reward you with one token. Both losses and draws will leave you with nothing but a wasted use of 50 coins. There is no cap on the tokens you can receive, so you can get them all here if you wish.

A majority of them will be earned this way. Thankfully, these matches only take about three or four minutes each. I recommend picking up any Baseball cards you discover in each level or purchasing them from the Soup to Nuts vendors. Many are clear upgrades to what you start with.

Complete Side Jobs for John

When you return to the P.I. Office to pin clues down and figure out your next lead, a handful of the nearby NPCs will sometimes have side jobs for you to complete. One to look out for in particular is John Brown’s at the pub, since he rewards you with prize tokens.

The good news is that a majority of his side jobs are pretty simple. You’ll only receive one prize token for completing the easier ones, while slightly more difficult ones will give you two tokens.

Check around in every level

Every mission in Mouse P.I. For Hire has secret areas or optional locked doors to get past. Sometimes it just leads to schematics for weapon upgrades, and sometimes it leads to baseball cards or newspapers.

While investigating Wallop Bay, a window behind a small army of frogs can be interacted with to speak with an NPC. Listen to all their mysterious dialogue to receive 66 coins and one prize token.

This may be the only instance of getting a token during a level, although it’s also possible we missed other opportunities. Either way, it never hurts to be thorough in a game like this.

What’s inside the Spike-D Token Prize machine?

The purpose of collecting these tokens is to “claim a unique reward“ from the Spike-D’s Token Prize D-Spenser at Little & Big. With how long it takes to gather enough of these, you’re probably wondering if it’s even worth it.

The reward for submitting 20 prize tokens is the X1 D-Mousifier raygun weapon. You’ll also unlock the Everybody Loves Rayguns achievement. This is the sole missable weapon in the game and can’t be upgraded. While the maximum ammo is a small six shots, the damage is seemingly impressive if you land headshots.

That covers what you need to know about unlocking prize tokens in Mouse P.I. For Hire. You’re mostly free to take your time with this, but the X1 D-Mouseifier will make a bigger impact earlier in the game than later.

Mouse P.I. For Hire is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
