Although you start Mouse P.I. For Hire with just a pistol and your fists, your arsenal will grow a lot as you dive into the cases. You’ll certainly be enjoying an abundance of variety in the second half of the game. That being said, some weapons are a cut above the rest once you’ve used the easy-to-miss schematics to enhance them.
Not only does each gun’s initial upgrade unlock an alternate fire, but investing further will improve other stats and even introduce unique perks. Here are the guns you should upgrade first in Mouse P.I. For Hire.
Boomstick
The Boomstick is the second weapon you’ll get your hands on, and it functions as you’d expect. It deals much more damage than your Micer pistol and can also momentarily stun enemies. Upgrading it will give you one of the deadliest close-range weapons in your adventure.
Charging up the alternate fire costs two shells, but results in a more powerful shot that can stun the biggest of foes or even take out multiple at once. Each upgrade also gives it piercing abilities, meaning that any enemies lined up behind your target aren’t safe either.
Loose Cannon
The Loose Cannon is the bazooka equivalent of your arsenal. Incredibly powerful, albeit low on ammo and a less-than-stellar explosive range. It ends up feeling tailored for use against the tankiest enemies or as a last resort when you’re low on health and ammo. Upgrading it does wonders for its viability.
Each upgrade will increase the damage, blast radius, pushback, and max ammo. This makes it far better at crowd control and easier to rotate in every combat situation. The alternate fire is also a fun cannonball that can bounce off enemies, although the primary fire arguably remains more useful.
Devarnisher
The Devarnisher is the third gun you get in Mouse P.I. For Hire, but it can feel like your strongest even at the end of the game. Its damage-over-time application will stun and one-shot normal enemies. Even bosses that teleport around will suffer significant damage. As strong as this is, it only gets better with upgrades.
Increased clip size and ammo alone are worth it. A bomb that can melt a crowd of enemies is also a great alternate fire. What’s just as great is that each upgrade increases the primary fire’s projectile count.
Even though the projectile spread starts rather late, it’s great being able to take out a handful of enemies across a room or at least being more likely to hit a moving enemy from long range. When a gun is this powerful, having more options is very welcome.
Upgrade these weapons and you’ll be more than prepared for the cases ahead in Mouse P.I. For Hire. Of course, these are just three out of nine guns you can end up with by the end. Each one is sure to bring you plenty of fun.
Mouse P.I. For Hire is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
