Little Nightmares 3 is the first game in the horror franchise to provide a co-op experience, allowing players to team up with a friend online to tackle the game together. As such, this outing’s two main characters, Low and Alone, feature unique ways to interact with the world and fight in the game’s rare but tense combat encounters.
Whether you’re playing solo or with another person, you’ll need to decide which of these two characters fits your playstyle best, as you won’t be able to change which one you control after starting a save file. So, here’s what you need to know about which character you should pick in Little Nightmares 3.
Which character should you pick in Little Nightmares 3?
Low and Alone function largely the same in terms in of movement and exploration, but they differ in how they interact with puzzles and engage in combat. Their differences ensure that both players have their moment to shine throughout the experience, with some situations requiring them to use their unique mechanics at the same time.
Low uses a bow, which allows him to engage in ranged combat and solve puzzles that include objects that are out of reach, while Alone sports a large wrench for melee combat and uses brute force for puzzle-solving.
In combat, this means that Low will usually be firing arrows to stun an enemy, then Alone will need to rush in and finish them off with a hefty swing from her wrench. As for puzzles, Low will often have to shoot arrows to break ropes or hit out-of-reach switches, while Alone will use her wrench to break through crumbling walls, smash huge buttons, or even turn mechanisms to move objects.
If you’re playing solo, the AI-controlled character will perform the necessary actions to help you progress, so you should pick whichever of the two seems like they’ll provide you with the most fun moment-to-moment gameplay based on whether you prefer melee or ranged characters.
However, if you’re playing co-op, it’s probably best to discuss with your partner which one they connect with, too, so you can be sure that you both feel comfortable with the playstyle expected of you.
Whichever character you choose, rest assured that you’ll get to be equally involved in combat and exploration throughout and that you’ll play a pivotal role in the duo’s progress. And given that the game is fairly short, you can always play through it again with the other character at any time.
Little Nightmares 3 is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
