Little Nightmares 3 - 5 Tips for Surviving the Spiral

The third installment to the beloved Little Nightmares series is finally upon us, and it’s just in time for the spooky season. In Little Nightmares 3, you can play either by yourself or with a friend as you traverse through this nightmarish world. But regardless of how you play, there are a few things that set Little Nightmares 3 apart from its predecessors — so let’s explore 5 tips for new and familiar players so you can enjoy this game to its full potential.

Pick the character that suits your playstyle

Low and Alone are more different than you think. And if you’re playing Little Nightmares 3 in single player, it’s important to know that you can’t change your character after your initial decision. That’s why it’s important to know what type of playstyle you’re getting into when playing as each character.

Low has a bow, which he can use to shoot far-away objects, and sometimes even small enemies that run at him. Meanwhile, Alone is equipped with a wrench, which is useful for smashing objects and twisting mechanisms. If you’d rather stay in the back away from the danger, pick Low. But if you don’t mind getting your hands a bit dirty, Alone is the way to go.

Interact with everything possible

One issue players may have with Little Nightmares 3 is getting lost in a level and not knowing the solution to a puzzle. Unlike many games that give the solution away by coating it in a visible paint of some sort, most interactable objects in this game blend in with their environments.

If you find yourself stuck on a puzzle, try interacting with everything around you. You may not realize until you fiddle with everything in the room that you missed a key part of a puzzle due to it looking like something you can’t touch. Remember, you can climb more things than you may realize, and some objects can be pulled even if they look stationary.

Keep an eye out for dolls

The main collectible you can find throughout all the chapters in Little Nightmares 3 are tiny dolls. You can easily miss them, and they’re typically hidden in completely optional side rooms. Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path, you may find a little doll awaiting you.

Pick up the doll with R2/RT, and you’ve collected it! Any trophy or achievement hunter will be pleased to know about dolls, but they’re still fun to find even if you’re not a completionist.

Don’t be afraid of brightness

Although Little Nightmares 3 is a bit of a horror game meant to be played in the dark, I wouldn’t be afraid to turn the brightness slider up more than you normally should. This isn’t because darkness is scary, it’s more than darkness in this game can be difficult to maneuver.

Little Nightmares 3 has some platforming sections, and if you’ve set your brightness too low, it can make platforming more difficult. Most levels are also side-scrolling, and even though they’re 3D, I missed jumps or fell off just because the low brightness messed with my depth perception. Also, the brighter the game, the easier it is to spot things like interactable objects and dolls that you may have missed due to the darkness.

You can replay chapters if you’ve missed stuff

For any completionist or lore-lover who wants to explore every nook and cranny of Little Nightmares 3, don’t fret too much about missing stuff from a previous chapter, as you can always replay them. Chapter Select is available from the main menu. There, you can choose to jump into any chapter without having to replay the entire game.

While you can hop into a chapter you’re in the middle of, you can’t enter a chapter you’ve yet to unlock. The chapters menu also lists how many dolls are available to find, and how many you’ve already collected.

Little Nightmares 3 is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
