More Powerful Than A Steam Deck? Meet The ASUS ROG Ally

ASUS has just announced their answer to the Steam Deck with the reveal of the ROG Ally. This gaming handheld console has been revealed and some content creators have gotten their hands on early prototypes of the device. So far, there is a lot of positive feedback from this initial exposure. The ASUS ROG Ally packs more punch than Valve’s Steam Deck and runs natively on Windows 11. This means you will be able to play any game from any gaming platform whether that's Steam, Epic, or Battle.net.

The ROG Ally is planning on having beefier internals compared to the Steam Deck. Upon these first initial hands-on previews across multiple content creators on YouTube, the consensus is that the Steam Deck typically runs modern games at a lower graphics setting at around 30 FPS on average. However, the ASUS ROG Ally is pushing medium graphics settings with 60 FPS on average. Of course, this is just a prototype and all games will run differently but this is a good insight to see how these internals will benefit the player.

Running Windows 11 with a custom AMD APU, The ROG Ally will have a 16:9 touchscreen displaying 1080p at 120Hz refresh rate. This will make all the difference, especially when playing games in handheld mode. Mind you, the Steam Deck does not hit 1080p resolution and pumps video out at half the refresh rate. Check out YouTuber Dave Lee @Dave2D dissect the prototype and discuss why you should be excited about this piece of hardware.
