Mortal Shell 2: How to Beat Malborn Offspring

The Malborn Offspring is one of the three bosses you must fight before tackling the final boss of Mortal Shell 2. Aside from Orrem and The Monolith, this boss can be considered tougher since it has two separate health bars and you’re unable to have a Summon help you. To make the fight a bit easier, here’s how you can defeat the Malborn Offspring in Mortal Shell 2.

Malborn Offspring boss guide in Mortal Shell 2

You can beat the Malborn Offspring in Mortal Shell 2 by equipping the Galvanic Shard for Lightning mitigation and dodging his attacks as much as possible. You won’t need the Galvanic Shard until the second fight, so in the first, all you can do is either dodge or parry his strong sword swings.

The Malborn Offspring usually attacks quickly, so parrying is risky, as you can only parry one of his many swings. That’s why I always use Tiel so I can Shadow Dodge, turn invisible, then Shadow Strike from behind for extra damage.

When he’s not swinging madly, he’ll try an unparryable attack where he launches straight at you. Dodge to the side before he can pierce you. Otherwise, when he swings down, dodge to the side. But when he swings wide, dodge backward. He has varying attacks, so it’s hard to learn them.

Just keep taking your time with when you decide to strike him, and eventually you’ll stagger him for a Riposte attack. He’ll get more aggressive at half health, using more unparryable attacks and lethal sword swings. Try to limit the amount of healing you have to do during this fight, because once you take him down, he’ll come back with rejuvenated health.

During the time that he’s down and he’s regaining his health, you can rush him to get in some attacks before he can get up and fight back. Now is the time to use the Galvanic Shard as an Active or Passive, as his sword now deals Lightning damage.

Although it looks like he deals AoE damage when striking the ground, you will only be inflicted with Lightning if you get hit by the sword. Dodging to his side is typically best, as you can get around him and fight from his side or back when he’s not swinging.

Once you finally take him down, you’ll get the Offspring Trophy as your reward. You can sell this to the merchant at Marrow Keep for some good money.

Mortal Shell 2 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
