Before you take on the final boss in Mortal Shell 2, you must beat the Malborn Offspring, Orrem, and the Monolith. This boss is the most interesting of the three, as it’s more like a giant structure come to life. It may seem easy at first, but the fight gets a lot more troublesome in the second half. We’ll explain how you can beat the Monolith in Mortal Shell 2.
The Monolith boss guide in Mortal Shell 2.
You can beat the Monolith in Mortal Shell 2 by staying as close to him as possible when he projects his lasers, and dodging more often than parrying. The Monolith is like the Thwomp in Super Mario Bros, it’ll attempt to slam onto the ground and crush you.
It’ll do this move around three times, so keep dodging backward until it’s done. When it’s not in that form, it has a large pendulum that’ll attempt to crush you. Either focus on ranged attacks here so you don’t get slammed, or get in just one or two hits before backing off.
At around half health, the Monolith will begin shooting lasers. It’ll start with one, but even if you try to outrun it, it’ll be faster than you. Avoid this by getting as close to the Monolith as possible, as it’s a shorter dodging distance.
The lasers eventually get worse, leading to it spinning and projecting dozens at once. It’ll chip away at your health and apply Burn to you, so use the Burnt Effigy item to mitigate the damage. You should also stick to the center as much as possible here, as it’s easier to avoid the lasers.
I was unable to interrupt some of these laser attacks and was stuck in an endless loop of being staggered by them, so don’t make my mistake of being far away from the Monolith. The closer you are, the easier it is to run around it.
Mortal Shell 2 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
