Mortal Shell 2: How to Beat the Hexapod

One of the toughest Corrupted Gate bosses in Mortal Shell 2 is the Hexapod, a strange tentacle monster that Proxima is hunting. After clearing one of the Corrupted Gates in Mammon, you’ll come face to face with this monster. This beast is a step above bosses like Magdalena and The Lost Child, so we’ll help you figure out how to defeat the Hexapod in Mortal Shell 2.

Hexapod boss guide in Mortal Shell 2

To beat the Hexapod in Mortal Shell 2, get Proxima’s help and use Tarstones to perform special attacks and inflict status effects. Spend a Glimpse to get Proxima’s help before you leap into the boss fight, because she can help take the aggro off of you.

This gives you time to use a Tarstone to coat your weapon with something like Burn. Lightning, or Stasis. I used Stasis, which helped slow down the Hexapod. Tarstones also grant you unique abilities that deal more damage than just slashing and hacking at the enemy.

In terms of the Hexapod’s moveset, it’ll require you to either dodge or parry at the right moment. Since I used Tiel’s Shell, I focused on performing perfect dodges to turn into a shadow, which turns you invisible and allows you to perform a Shadow Strike. You can also try parrying, but it’s a lot riskier.

Most of Hexapod’s attacks have a lead-up to them to let you time your dodge. It’ll either raise its limbs to then swipe across it (dodge backwards), or it’ll try pincering anything in its way (dodge sideways). Stagger the Hexapod as much as possible, as it’ll allow you to deal a nice chunk of damage.

When the Hexapod is low health, it’ll change its attack patterns to be more aggressive. It’ll run away and rush towards you, either preparing for a strike (just wait for it to raise its tentacles to dodge or parry), or it’ll swim underground and surprise-strike you from below (dodge to the side when the red indicator appears).

Eventually you’ll defeat the Hexapod by using these tips, which gives you the Hexapod Core Tarstone. This Tarstone only works with the Axatana (which I used to beat the Hexapod). It consumes 60 Resolve to carve through enemies with rapid strikes.

Mortal Shell 2 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
