In a game like Onimusha: Way of the Sword, combat is a huge part of the overall experience. In Onimusha, combat comes in an array of different forms, including boss fights, minor enemies, and even mini-bosses. How you deal with these enemies is up to you. You can be hyper aggressive, or fight on your back foot and rely more on your reflexes.
How to perform a reflex dodge in Onimusha: Way of the Sword
In combat, one of the best ways you can avoid damage while creating an opening against an unsuspecting enemy is the Reflex Dodge. A Reflex Dodge is a quick, last second dodge that causes an enemy’s attack to barely miss and opens them up for a counterattack. Sometimes, a Reflex Dodge will stagger an enemy. And if your Reflex Gauge is full, a reaction button will appear on the enemy. Against a minor enemy, this will generally kill them immediately, while bosses will take significant damage to their stamina along with some damage to their health.
Now you know what a Reflex Dodge is, but now HOW do you actually perform one?
It’s fairly easy. At the last second before an enemy’s attack hits you, press the dodge button (Circle on PS5, B on Xbox, and A on Switch 2). Keep in mind that the timing is very similar to parry timing, so you want to dodge as late as possible.
Reflex Dodges work best against unarmed attacks, but you can also dodge most melee attacks as long as they’re not the glowing pink unavoidable attacks. You’ll know you successfully performed a Reflex Dodge because, rather than diving like the regular dodge animation, you’ll leave behind a shadow form of yourself. Then there will be a brief slow motion dodge and then you’ll have the opportunity to attack the enemy.
Now that you’ve learned how to do a Reflex Dodge, maybe you’re ready to take on the Daidara in Onimusha, a boss who really makes you focus on dodging his attacks.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is available now for PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5.
